Putin spokesman: US has 'serious problems' with press freedom

A spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin says inquiries by the Justice Department into Russia-funded news outlets show that U.S. press freedom is in decline.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to a reported investigation into the Sputnik news outlet. A fired White House correspondent says he gave the FBI thousands of internal emails showing it's illegally operating as an unregistered propagandist.

A second Russia-funded outlet, Russia Today, said this week the Justice Department told an associated company to register as a foreign agent under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), which Sputnik is under investigation for violating.

Putin and his spokesman know very little about freedom, including freedom of the press. Putin blowing smoke again.

You’d think a Russian complaining about the US having a serious problem with “free press” is that there’s too much freedom. I’ll agree that major news media is abusing their freedoms.

I agree with him except I would dare him to compare Russian press with press in the US.

And thankfully, we have the conservative press and media and the Internet. When the checkers are not checking then then the checkers need to be checked.

Interesting: the irony. We are allowed to agree with him whereas I bet the average Russian citizen is not allowed to question the government nor the press.

This kind of introspection is good because it might affect change. I can only hope...

Oh, we don’t have a problem with the press being too free. We have a problem with the press being subverted by the likes of the KGB while the Soviet Union still stood. If Putin wanted to help us out he could open old KGB files and let us know who they were controlling or cooperating with.

Russia has press freedom.

Our fake news media are simply transmission belts for the Democratic Party.

The BBC and NPR also need to be investigated. Both government funded and a source of plenty of fake news and propaganda.

forget Putin, but I’m confused,....does Sky News, CNN, Reuters, AP, etc, have to also register as foreign agents in other countries? Like, would Sky News or VOA have to register in Canada or Cambodia or Australia?

No we don’t...

All the lying propagandists for the democrat party are perfectly free to do whatever they want.

The only problems is they’ve been LYING about being impartial.

But it’s never been more obvious, that is why Trump won. And it’s getting to be more and more obvious.

Pretty much sums it up. The MSM no longer serves to provide truth to the public.
