As many as 800 tractor trailers loaded with relief supplies are at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery waiting to be deployed to Florida and Georgia as the areas brace for Hurricane Irma.
Col. Eric K. Shafa, Commander of the 42nd Air Base Wing at Maxwell, said the installation is serving as staging area for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Tractor trailers began rolling into Maxwell yesterday and will be deployed, if needed, after the storm. The trucks contain supplies such as water, food, generators and cots.
"This is a significant hurricane and our hearts and prayers go out to our friends and the families down in Florida," Shafa said. "We're willing to help out in any way we can."
Crews from FEMA and the Defense Logistics Agency are at Maxwell to receive relief supplies and direct distribution following the storm.

These trucks have been prepositioned since last week along with the FEMA staff needed to respond quickly.
Convoys of 100-200 trucks each are leaving Maxwell this morning with police escorts and are on the way to Florida.
Trump already had disaster declarations posted for Florida, Georgia and South Carolina before IRMA even hit, and issued one for Alabama yesterday within an hour of Gov. Ivey issuing the request.
The logistics with closed roads and unsafe bridges has to be a nightmare.
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin’,
We’re gonna do what they say can’t be done.
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there...
A lot different from buses sitting in a parking lot going nowhere to help during Katrina....because it was not in the Union drivers contract.
Are these saturated with formaldehyde?
Cool, quiet, clear/sunny in Mobile this morning.
Cloudy, misty and chilly up here in Montgomery this morning. This mid-50 - low 60 crud can leave and not return until late October like normal! Should be back to normal mid-upper 80s tomorrow though.
Puts to shame Bush Junior’s response to Katrina. Trump’s team has their act together, gives no room for criticism. Good. Why couldn’t they roll out other things over past 9 months with same success?
George II was foolish enough to rely on the corrupt politicians in LA to ask for help.
Before Hurricane Harvey hit, the liberal media was literally chomping at the bit for another "Katrina" situation that they could lay on Trump. But Trump and his Administration (as well as state and local government) were far, far ahead of events and their performance in both hurricanes has been masterful. The only criticism the anti-Trump media was able to muster was Melania's choice of footwear and the blow-back they received on that was fun to watch.
I love LA. Anywhere below I 10.
Someone ought to get a shot of the convoy going into region from the Alabama border...big massive pic of 100 trucks....going for a couple of miles.
Does the convoy include The Home Depot convey, some 70+ trucks?
This one is of the trucks arriving at Maxwell AFB.
No, the Home Depot convoy is different. These are FEMA supplies that were pre-positioned last week in preparation of the storm.
Have you seen the traffic downtown? Everyone trying to get back to Florida at one time. I-165 at Cochran Bridge exit was backed up almost to I-65. Never saw that before. I-10 at the tunnel has been jammed for two days.
But never mind the facts: just trash Boooosh ... it's the fashionable thing to do.
A friend of mine is a driver in a convoy of about 26 semi trucks from here in the metro Detroit area that is currently in FL helping in the clean up.....
