Prayer Thread for Florida and the Rest of the Southeast US
Free Republic Admins and FReeper Who Care ^ | Sept 08 2017 | Texas Booster

Posted on 09/08/2017 1:05:37 PM PDT by texas booster

Traditionally Free Republic has tried to keep truly important topics to one or two threads.

I am creating a prayer and comment thread to parallel the Irma threads and keep down the childlike quips that are slowing down the other threads.

Have a religious comment? Have a relative in need of prayer? Please post it here.

The other threads are slow enough with all the graphics, which becomes more important as people try to evacuate, moving to cell and tablet communication.

So please play nice and move discussions here.

TOPICS: Breaking News; Culture/Society; News/Current Events; US: Florida; US: Georgia; US: Louisiana; US: North Carolina; US: South Carolina; US: Texas

Luke 13:4

4 Or those eighteen who were killed when the tower of Siloam collapsed on them: Do you think that they were more sinful than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

FReepers are mostly Christian, and we should spend more time in prayer rather than picking on each other.

So please Bless, and do not curse, those who may be in the way of the storm, or otherwise providing accurate information on the Irma threads.

15 miles west of Port Saint Lucie here.
We’re nervous.
Hunkered down and all shuttered up but worried.
Been through 3 at 125 mph here in the past.
We’ll see.

Pinging random FReepers who posted on the Irma II thread.

Here are the people that I remember needing prayer from the other thread:

Cementjungle - secure housing and safe travels

NautiNurse - To evac or not?

cll - continued safety in the aftermath of Irma in Puerto Rico

I know I have missed a bunch of folk but please add to the list.

Thanks to all

Thanks for starting the thread. I’m in the path (Winter Park, north of Orlando) where I live but also own a condo on the ocean in New Smyrna Beach. I’d love to hear this ‘cold front’ will have some kind of calming affect and it will quell the strength.

I think Charley was a cat 1 when it came through WP in 05 and that caused a pretty good amount of damage so I can’t imagine what a Cat 2 or above does.

I’m praying for all of us, even the ones (or maybe especially?:)) that are angry about hearing about God. He loves us and does not intend us harm!

My brother lived in Port Saint Lucie proper, and moved after only one hurricane.

15 miles off the coast you are probably better off to stock up on Costco sized containers of bread, milk, eggs (French toast, anyone?) and of course, the pallet sized package of TP.

There no doubt you will get lots of wind and rain but the westward track should spare you the worst.

LORD, please bless and protect Joe's family during this hurricane, and provide ways for them to be a blessing to others during this storm.

Prayers for the first responders and rescuers - all those in harm’s way - to serve others.

Grant mercy to those in distress.

In Jesus Name
Amen

A hymn I love and it seems appropriate for this hurricane situation:

God bless our native land!
Firm may she ever stand
Thro’ storm and night!
When the wild tempests rave,
Ruler of wind and wave
Do Thou our country save
By Thy great might.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Lord, in Thy mercy, hear our prayers .... in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Amen... praying so for those who are in the path of Irma, for those of our Mexican neighbors affected by the 8.2 earthquake last evening, and for those who are recovering and rebuilding from Harvey.

We are here on the gulf coast near Tampa in new port richey. My hubby, two kids, my dog, 3 birds and 3 hermit crabs, our house my boats. I sang “Time to say goodbye” to my boats this morning while tying them. When you have something like a boat that youve had for a long time they become like a family member.

I have a friend that lives in St. Cloud? I think it is close to Orlando also. Do you think she will be in the pathway?

I got this yesterday and am going to close all my internal doors as I don’t want to lose my roof :|

TAMPA, September 6, 2017 – Following rigorous scientific wind testing on a full-scale, 1,400 square foot single-story home in its unique laboratory this summer, the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) has important new guidance for all homeowners preparing for major wind storms such as Hurricane Irma: close all interior doors, in addition to all windows and exterior doors.

High winds, such as those currently expected from Hurricane Irma, place homes under intense pressure. Wind entering the home through an open or broken window, can create strong upward pressure on the roof. Closing interior doors helps compartmentalize the pressure inside the home into smaller areas reducing the overall force on the roof structure, which gives the roof a better chance of staying intact.

“The roof is your first line of defense against anything Mother Nature inflicts on a home, and during a bad storm your roof endures fierce pressure from wind, rain, and flying debris that may be outside,” said Julie Rochman, IBHS president and CEO. “But the roof also must withstand internal pressure if winds get inside. The pressure in your home can build like air in a balloon, eventually causing the roof to fail and blow apart, which – particularly in a hurricane – allows water to come pouring in.”

As the eastern United States and Caribbean islands prepare for Hurricane Irma, IBHS urges homeowners to follow all evacuation orders and be sure to shut the doors on Irma to increase its ability to withstand the storm.

IBHS offers additional hurricane preparedness tips here. The Institute will provide further data behind our summer wind testing findings in October.
