In one of the more bizarre stories to hit national news this week, an Ohio sheriff's deputy is under investigation for shooting a local reporter who innocently set up a camera and tripod on a public sidewalk to document a routine traffic stop. What's more is the shooting took place in a small town where "everyone knows everybody" and the police officer and victim were actually friends.

Well I guess it really wasn't a "routine" traffic stop, now was it?
Dont be stopping behind a cop who has someone pulled over and start whipping out all sorts of unidentified gear when the cop is focused on someone else not killing him. He may not recognize you as a friend and ventilate you for good measure.

This is the third article I’ve seen on this. That means someone is paying money to have this information placed.

I guess every time a story is reported in more than one place that means someone is paying to get the exposure. I never knew that.

Cops , yes, even cops have to make a lethal force equation work out to enable a justified lethal force response.
Just because a cop is surprised (meaning he lost situational awareness) does not equate to a lawful lethal force response- if that is the standard then indeed we can all shoot the guy or gal who surprises us and is carrying a “thing” ( or maybe even not carrying anything).
Ability= possess a lethal weapon that can be employed to cause grave injury or death under the circumstances the situation unfolds under
Intent= the actor by word or deed demonstrates that they are indeed a lethal threat
Imminence-the actor, based on the above two criteria is capable of delivering a lethal threat in real time
Unless all three criteria are met- the use of lethal force against the other actor is a crime of murder/attempted murder etc based on outcomes.
If cops are so scared, they should change jobs and work at less risky jobs, like maybe car wash attendant.

It has been asserted recently that when you see multiple reports, with the same slant on events, that somebody is pushing it for their own purposes.
Might not be true every time. Everybody would have reported on Harvey anyway, but perhaps not in just the same way.
