Republican Congressman Determined to Protect DACA with House Discharge Petition

WASHINGTON -- A Republican congressman said he'll use a rarely invoked maneuver Tuesday to force a bill to the floor for a vote that would protect DACA beneficiaries for the next three years.

Politico reported Sunday that administration officials met to discuss how to roll out President Trump's decision to end the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which allowed qualified undocumented immigrants who were brought to the country illegally as children to apply for protected status. About 800,000 people are now registered under DACA.

Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Colo.) introduced the Bar Removal of Individuals who Dream and Grow our Economy Act -- the BRIDGE Act -- in January to extend DACA protections for three years. The legislation has 13 Democratic and 12 GOP co-sponsors.

"When I return to D.C., I will file a discharge petition to force a floor vote on the #BRIDGEAct," Coffman tweeted Thursday. "#DACA participants grew up here, went to school here, and should be allowed to stay here. The time has come to take action."

Nothing like TRYING to destroy the party. I loathe these people for not doing what we voted for.

Guess this CO rep has a lot of marijuana growers in his district that need illegals to do the work. According to the media, the CO government depends on pot money these days.

Considering it is an executive order and not an act of congress, they can do nothing about it.

If they want it to be law, then pass a law. I dare you, RINO’s...

Interesting that Lindsey Graham is pushing a version of this thing in the U.S. Senate but has also been quoted as supporting President Trump’s decision to end the DACA idiocy.

It’s past time to start a new conservative party

If nothing else we are getting to see all the lies the Republican party has been feeding us for the last decade:

2010-2016: Obamacare is an abomination, once we are in power we will repeal this disgusting socialist power grab hook, line and sinker.

2017: What?!? Actually repeal Obamacare? Are you crazy? Think of all those people who depend on such a great plan!

2014-2016: Obama's DACA Executive Order is nothing but an unconstitutional power grab, it's back door amnesty! Vote for us and it's gone!

2017: What?!? Repeal DACA?!? Think of all those poor innocent illegals! We can't allow such a humanitarian tragedy! We must enshrine this great program DACA into law!

EVERY Congressman that puts illegal aliens above the rule of law and the citizens needs to be removed from office.

In his inimitable fashion, Trump has handed the Congress its a** on a plate.

He is giving them six months to take action on this issue of illegal immigrants that they did not have the courage to face under Obama. The Republicans want to grant amnesty for their Chamber of Commerce and big money donors, but they fear the backlash from citizen voters. Obama illegally granted executive amnesty, and that let Congress look the other way.

So now what happens if the Repubs and Dims pass a bill to grant amnesty in six months or less? Isn’t the first question for Trump to ask, “Why can’t you work this fast for American citizens, the legal voters who elected you?

Why can’t you pass a healthcare bill, or a budget, or tax reform, or authorize a border wall or even funds for new ICE officers?

How does Congress answer that?

But can’t force a vote on Obamacare, can’t force a vote on tax reform, can’t force a vote on the wall. Fascinating.

Clever move by Trump. Forces congresscritters to decide going into the primary season of mid terms. Time to clean house...and senate.

This bucket of slime replaced Tancredo. He also just filed for divorce. I’m guessing he’s got a “dreamer’ girlfriend he wants to save

This clown is my congressman and I just wrote a nice little email asking him if a politician runs on his honor and integrity, should his values change with the political winds? This douche literally ran as a rock solid conservative on every single issue in 2008 then in 2014 he completely fell off the rails. He says his principles made him switch some of his views but I’m sure there is more involved then just that, as with most all of the dirt bags in DC. Anyways, we got a MAJOR problem here in CO-6th as Coffman has completely sold out on immigration to get the 20% Hispanic vote in Aurora so he’s going to be tough to primary.

What Rep. Mike Coffman said when running for office:

"Immigration reform must be about securing our borders and enforcing our laws; must not put any burdens on U.S. taxpayers and should be centered on economic growth; and immigration reform must also be about keeping families together."

Politicians will say anything to get elected...Coffman should get with President Trump's program, not his hypocritical one.
