Denying Hurricane Harvey’s climate links only worsens future suffering
The Guardian ^ | September 5, 2017 | by Dana Nuccitelli

Posted on 09/05/2017 6:26:29 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Human-caused climate change amplified the damages and suffering associated with Hurricane Harvey in several different ways. First, sea level rise caused by global warming increased the storm surge and therefore the coastal inundation and flooding from the storm. Second, the warmer atmosphere holds more water vapor, which intensifies extreme precipitation events like the record-shattering rainfall associated with Harvey. Third, warmer ocean waters essentially act as hurricane fuel, which may have made Harvey more intense than it would otherwise have been.

We can take some steps to adapt to rising sea levels, but denying the problem by rolling back regulations aimed at doing just that shifts us further toward the suffering part of the equation. Economic growth has many benefits, but by itself does not move us in the direction of climate mitigation or adaptation.

In short, to minimize the suffering caused by climate change, we need to be smarter about addressing the problem and adapting its consequences. Right now we’re instead becoming stupider, and that will only lead to increased suffering. If we want to minimize the suffering caused by future Harveys, we need to talk about how climate change is making them worse, and we need to do something about it.

So the mere act of thinking affects the weather?

Guardianistas have seen to many X-Men films.

” First, sea level rise caused by global warming increased the storm surge and therefore the coastal inundation and flooding from the storm. “

Isn’t the claim that seas are going to rise an inch?

That resulted in 10+ feet of flooding (from 50 inches of rainfall) in some communities?

Versus the real cost of curing so called human caused climate change?

Wouldn’t that be the appropriate analysis?

Oh that’s right the MSM is too lazy and incapable of doing real investigative research and analysis

If we have more hurricanes than usual, it’s due to climate change. If we have fewer hurricanes than usual, it’s due to climate change. If we have a hotter than normal summer, it’s due to climate change. If we have a cooler than normal summer, it’s due to climate change. If we have a colder than normal winter, it’s due to climate change. If we have a milder than normal winter, it’s due to climate change. Droughts are due to climate change. Torrential rains are due to climate change. Partly cloudy with a chance of rain is due to climate change.

:: First, sea level rise caused by global warming increased the storm surge ::

And, your scientifically-reproducible evidence that GOM levels have increased can be found, where? And, that it was caused by (the dubious concept of) Global Warming (AKA: CACA, see tagline) can be found, where?

Item Next:

:: Right now we’re instead becoming stupider ::

English! It is an very old language and has specific rules for its use. You are not allowed to abuse the language by creating your own rules. To wit; “more stupid” is correct. “Stupider” is not a word found in the English language. (I shall summarily ignore all offered citations from ^modern^ dictionaries that include culturally corrected items such as “butt-fisting” and “tea-bagging”. These have no credibility.)

I blame it on low flow toilets.

All that water we’ve been saving went to Houston.

Makes as much sense as anything The Guardian has ever published.

Oh please! I am in line to be hit by this new cat-5.... but that is just it. There have been plenty of other strong storms and in the last ten years we’ve not seen many. That is despite the fact that Al Gore’s apocalypse of 10-years have come and gone.

According to the same scientist we’ve had millions of years of a frozen earth and a warmer earth..... so Dino farts did it in last time? Cavemen’s fire saved the day during the ice age?

“Human-caused climate change....” STOP RIGHT THERE!

But wait, that’s only the first 4 words (or is it 3?) of the article!

Yes, and it’s as far as you need to go because “Human-caused climate change” is IMPOSSIBLE, RIDICULOUS, WITHOUT PROOF or evidence (how could there be any), a (so-called) climate “scientist’s” wet dream.

Just the other day ANOTHER group of “scientists” on their way to investigate the melting of sea ice had to turn back.

WHY? you say? Was it because of all the hungry Polar Bears floating around on ice cubes? Was it the yuge number of belly up whales blocking their path?

No, IT WAS SEA ICE!!!!!!

“unfortunately our urgently needed study of the disappearance of sea ice do to man-made global warming had to be relocated to our campus offices due to an unexplainable amount of sea ice. We will still issue our in depth report after studying our computer models from our offices.” /s

The first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States in 14 years...

...and the climate is changing. Yeah, right.

"evidence that GOM levels have increased can be found, where?"

I have doubts about you Cletus.

First,How can a man who represents himself as retarded moron, be smart enough or educated enough comprehend such a complicated subject?

And second, do you have the required attention span to go beyond anything that is a few sentences/paragraphs long?

But, I will be glad to direct to a place where you can begin, and go from there.

Ocean Surface Topography is studied for numerous reasons, including how the ocean moves heat around the globe, a critical component of earth's climate, and for monitoring changes in global sea level.

First, sea levels are controlled by the moon which controls the tides. Wind and sped of the storm are contributing factors.

WHEN are people going to trash this blah blaah blaaah about man causing global weather changes? The sun and the moon are in charge. Puny man is inconsequential!

What a bunch of bull..

Harvey wasn’t all that special, as far as hurricanes go. The only reason the rain totals were so high was: The path of Harvey. The way it lingered for so long, and then affected such a large area for such a long time.

That has NOTHING To do with climate change, it’s simply the luck of steering currents.

Back in 1979, we had 48” of rain in 24 hours south of Houston. This is NOT unprecedented.

Sea level rise? Give me a break. This man can’t be serious.
