That is probably true. For all the so called compassion of the Left they ended up putting about 200 people out of work. What compassion!

That's how The Party of Compassion rolls.

Years ago (I was still a youth), National Review used to have an annual "oxymoron contest." Every year, I sent them "liberal compassion" or "compassionate liberal."

It defies intuition to believe so. Others theorize that we got the ones too slow to avoid capture, or at least too poor, which has also been the case with white slaves — often drawn from the impoverished areas or slums of Europe.

Of course the meat of the story contradicts the headline. Show was in desperate shape and destined to close, not a hit at all. They were hoping Mandy would jump start sales, but that was a desperation move, that probably would have failed, Mandy’s not that good an actor and he doesn’t have a very big following.

It’d be rather hard to find a Jew to play Jesus.

I saw just that at a local production cast by a synagogue of Messianic Jews (Jews who believe Jesus was and is the Jewish Messiah). There are quite a few of such congregations in the East Coast. It was very moving to see the ethnic representation of all the characters in the story of Ruth. At the end, they showed a line of the "begats" from Ruth down to baby Jesus, a small olive-skinned boy with curly dark hair in the arms of one of the adult actors at 9:00 pm at the end of the show. He was not happy at being awake so late, and gave an intense glare to the audience, which was absolutely perfect. Brought tears. All the other actors were of ethnically Jewish heritage as well.

The primary complaint about Iron Fist isn’t that he’s white, that’s the history of the character, it’s that he’s at best a mediocre actor and absolutely terrible at the martial arts work. The guy can’t even tai chi convincingly.

The show was in bad shape because they didn’t have a lead who sells tickets. So they got Mandy Patinkin, who is a marquee name. Like Groban, he would likely have kept the show running for a good while.

It had been successful with Groban in the lead.

Then the PC crowd got busy screaming, yelling, and stomping their feet to protest the replacement of a black actor with a non-black. Then Patinkin withdrew.

That’s when the show announced its closing. Killed by political correctness.

Patinkin attracts Broadway audiences. he’s one of Broadway’s stars.

Problem always for Broadway is shows run their course. Patinkin might have boosted it, but it might have just been done.

Not according to the SJWs I saw complaining and writing bad reviews even before they watched it.

Well, I understood why she was cast: she is a big star and can make money.

Race aside, it was a poor casting choice. She could not convincingly play the character. Adding the race back in, the problem is that by casting her, they just pissed off the fans of the series - Ghost In The Shell is a very successful long-running manga and anime series before the decision was made to make it into a life action Hollywood movie - who are notorious sticklers for fidelity to the original material. Hollywood should have known better, but they couldn’t resist their usual temptations.

Most knowledgeable theatre people think Patinkin would have extended the run. The show was one of the nominees for Best Musical. It shouldn’t be closed in less than a year.

And yet when they switched stars the first time it went from gangbusters to life support. Maybe with Patinkin people start showing up for the star again, but there was a clear problem with the appeal of the show itself.

Because Groban is the kind of name that you put above the title. So is Patinkin. "Oak" isn't. He was a supporting player in Hamilton. He's fine in a supporting role. He's not established enough yet to be a lead. (Whether he should be is another question -- the fact is that he isn't.)

So the producers made a smart move -- they went for an "above the title" star. And then the PC crowd killed them.

I'll grant you that Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 isn't exactly The Phantom of the Opera (which has been running since President Reagan was in office) or Wicked or some powerhouse like that. But the critics loved it, and it was a nominee for Best Musical.

It was VERY popular when it opened. It should have lasted much longer, but the PC crowd wasn't having any of that.

The destuctive stupidity of political correctness.

Very popular WITH the first big star. Then he left and the show started tanking. If they hadn’t signed Patinkin the show was dead and nobody would care. The only reason this became an issue is because they thought they had him, and a bounce in ticket sales, then he bailed, and it died. The show lacked legs.

And he ailed because of the PC crowd having a fit. Otherwise, the show would still be open.

Until he eventually left which was bound to happen because he’s only there until shooting on Homeland resumes. The fact that the show went from gangbusters to life support within 6 weeks of Groban leaving shows it was a ticking clock and was doomed. Their original plan only had Patinkin there until late fall or early winter (when they projected “Oak” returning). So close now, or close early next year. Both the original story and your input clearly indicate this shows was doomed, it wasn’t going to have a long run unless they kept an endless stream of short term “above the title” stars in it.

All of them leave eventually. Perhaps they find another “above the title” star to replace Patinkin, or perhaps they close shortly after he departs, having made some money instead of having lost money.

The issue here is that they had Patinkin, who is the kind of star who could keep their show running for a while, and he was forced to withdraw under pressure because the PC bean-counters had a fit over a black actor (who wasn’t drawing much audience) being replaced by one who is not black (but could draw an audience.)

That’s the story. And it shows the destructive stupidity of political correctness.
