man changing a tire was shot while a woman and a 2-year-old child were in the car late Sunday on the shoulder of Interstate 290, Illinois State Police said.
About 11:10 p.m. near the stopped vehicle off the west lanes of I-290 at Mannheim Road, the man, 23, was shot in the buttocks, according to a news release from the state police. No one else was injured, officials said.
State police troopers were sent to Elmhurst Hospital, where they found the wounded man, who was driven there by the woman, officials said. He had been shot in the buttocks while changing the tire and told authorities he “felt a sharp pain and realized he was shot.”
All lanes of westbound traffic were closed and then reopened about 1:15 a.m. Monday.
Anyone with information about the identity or whereabouts of the shooter should call 847-294-4000. Authorities believe they are looking for someone who was in a black sedan, said Master Sgt. Don Orseno.

About 15 years I was travelling in about that same area when I had a flat. While I was changing it, a car with three thugs came along and relieved me of the cash that was in my wallet.....

Mannheim Road does go thru des plaines however, I-290 at Mannheim Road is Hillside...as in the Hillside Strangler, which George Ryan “fixed” by moving the traffic jams a little farther east.
After being shot, did he continue to fix the tire?
Did the woman have to get out & finish changing the tire?
Did they drive to the hospital on 3 tires & a rim?
They said it was Million Dollar wound, but I never saw any of that money.
