Trump to speak at Mandan refinery Wednesday (North Dakota)

President Donald Trump will speak Wednesday at a Mandan refinery, the White House said Monday.

Trump’s speech, which is expected to be focused on tax reform, is scheduled for just after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Andeavor refinery. Few other details about the president’s plans were known Monday.

Air Force One is scheduled to arrive at Bismarck Municipal Airport at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday.

The visit comes a week after the Republican president gave his first major speech on tax reform in Missouri, according to Reuters. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., who last week confirmed Trump’s visit, said the president is making the case for tax reform across the country.

North Dakota is friendly territory for Trump. He’s less than a year removed from winning the state with almost 63 percent of the vote, and a recent Gallup poll showed Trump's 59 percent approval rating in North Dakota is second only to West Virginia.

Trump’s visit to North Dakota will be the first by a sitting president since Barack Obama came to the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in 2014.

He could probably do both. North Dakota isn’t Hawaii.

ND is definitely Trump Country. Total vote counts were 216k to 93k (64.2% to 27.7%... a 36-point spread). Two of the 53 counties in NoDak had fewer than 60 votes for Hillary - Billings (59), and Slope (43). Others were below 100 total Hillary votes - Golden Valley (99), and Sheridan (95). Nineteen ND counties were over 80% for Trump, and 4 were over 85%.

Hillary won exactly 2 of the 53 counties - Rolette with 2099 votes (57%), and Sioux with 798 votes (64%)... Sioux County is famous for the months-long DAPL Pipeline "protest", by the way.

(Gary Johnson got 6.4% in ND, as well.)

Bernie also beat Hillary among district delegates in NoDak, 253-101 (64%-25%, 10% uncommitted)

Had a temporary job at Mandan winter of ‘92. Never been so cold in my life. Best place to stay warm was in the pump house

Mandan diesel was so light we could add 25 percent Light Cycle Oil and still meet N2 oil specs. I think the API Gravity was around 50.

My late mother grew up in Rolette County; it is the home of the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation. I believe Sioux County also has a reservation.
