New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has declined to make a Shermanesque statement that would flatly rule out the possibility that he would appoint himself to fill the Senate seat of Democrat Senator Bob Menendez. Sen. Menendez is currently under federal trial, facing bribery and corruption charges. Should Menendez be removed from office or resign before Christie’s term ends on January 18, 2018, Christie would have the power to appoint his replacement.
In a recorded interview aired on this today’s Morning Joe, New York Times reporter Nick Confessore said to Christie, “I’m looking for a Shermanesque statement here.”

Sure, he’s a criminal RINO goof, but it is NJ and he is better than we’d have hope for. I’ll take anything that swings a state.
However, putting himself in a position to raise this possibility before Ol’ Bob is dispensed with may not increase the likelihood of it happening.

Isn’t New Jersey the state where a Democrat candidate died after the legal time had passed for getting a new candidate on the ballot—but the New Jersey Supreme Court let the ‘Rats do it anyway?
Everything relates to Bobby Sherman. I once dated someone who knew someone who had a friend who was held up at knifepoint at a Bobby Sherman concert.
That’s how it works.
Menendez has to be found guilty, kicked out of the senate, and imprisoned before Christie-0 should open his mouth.
On the other hand the Dems will probably demand that he be allowed to serve as a senator while he is in prison.
He did this with Mitt Romney - positioning himself for Veep, talking about himself at the convention in 2012. He’s apparently got no self control.

Trial starts Sept 6. No idea how long it will take. Demwits doing best to keep trial coverage at minimum. Delay. Deny. Typical of Dems. But judge in this case seems to be strict interpreter of law.

It’s unseemly, but since Christie’s career isn’t going anywhere, he’d be dumb not to appoint himself to the Senate if he has the power to do that.
I’d be happy with Christie. Boisterousness can only help us.
