Secretary of Defense James Mattis issued issued a warning to North Korea on Sunday, saying the country would be hit with a “massive military response” if it continues to threaten the U.S.

Mattis mentioned any threats to the U.S. and their allies, including territories such as Guam, would cause the U.S. to respond with strong military action.

“Any threat to the United States or its territories including Guam or our allies will be met with a massive military response,” Mattis said outside of the White House after a meeting with President Donald Trump.

The defense secretary called out Kim in a statement to the press.

“Kim Jong Un should take heed the United Nations Security Council’s unified voice. All members unanimously agreed on the threat North Korea poses. And they remain unanimous in their commitment to the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. Because we are not looking to the total annihilation of a country, namely, North Korea,” Mattis said.

Well, they could get the message direct from Mattis or wait for some back stabbing never Trump POS leaker to let the cat out of the bag. Me, I'd be pointing over there and shouting "SQUIRREL" while the back door was being kicked in. Of course most of our folks would have a tough time passing themselves off as NORKs.

It’s a shame the U.S. does not have the technology to zap a laser beam
On the rocket from space. Thus blowing it up before it ever launches.
That technology could solve a lot of problems.

As I recall the last "massive" military response consisted of two B2Bs and a handful of fighters flying over the Korean Peninsula, safely south of the 38th parallel.

Remember the naval task force that was headed there? Has it made it yet?

The DPRK is China's cat's paw. They act at China's behest. A carrier task force in the Yellow Sea would get China's undivided attention.

Maybe we could send our Nobel Peace Prize winner over there. He is good at apologizing to thug rulers. He probably would love to bend over and “take one for the team”

Mattis is being deliberately vague about what constitutes a "threat" which is good. It obviously does not mean a verbal threat since that red line has been crossed countless times.

All this talk with no action is not lost on Moscow or Beijing.

The world saw three of our Navy ships get rammed by unarmed cargo/civilian vessels. Not good.

Weakness - or the perception of weakness - begets aggression.

Having dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks Nazi Haley representing us in the UN is not exactly the best case scenario either.

How many threats have we issued already? It does not look like we are serious.

*************

A truism for the ages if there ever was one. I first learned this valuable lesson many years ago in school. There was a small guy who was often picked on until one day he stood his ground and beat the crap out of the bully in a prolonged fist fight. The little guy would just not quit. From that day on no one, and I mean no one, messed with the little guy anymore.

BTW, I agree with your characterization of Haley. She looks like a news reader and has no gravitas whatsoever. Total lightweight who is in over her head.

After decades of talk and appeasement, its no wonder that Kim doesn’t take us seriously. Our politicians were content to bribe NK and make it appear as though some meaningful deal was struck by diplomatic pressure. It was all just a show and now Trump is left to deal with the mess. He has to restore U.S. credibility which isn’t going to be easy in view of the pathetic weakness of previous presidents.

Is it ok that these people handle this with the care that is needed without not fitting into your armchair general schedule of thinking that this is like knocking over some crappy middle eastern tinpot dictator?

This isnt a joke, and can use fewer people looking for nothing but to “blow stuff up real gud” without realizing millions of people are in the cross-fire.

When or if it comes, you are guaranteed to be “entertained”.

“All this talk with no action is not lost on Moscow or Beijing.”

War =/= “action”

Nor is this a d*ck measuring contest.

Because if it isnt done right, are you going to be held responsible because you want “action” and you want it “now”?

Yeah, I think we're all impatient, but I think part of it is world opinion (barf) and US leftist shrieking "Trump is a WWIII war monger" were we to commit to a (in my opinion long overdue) pre-emotive strike

In the meantime, we're playing footsie with the UN this week. (more barf)
