Nothing new, just reinforcement of previously known statistics. Thankfully (or not?) the US Military has become more tech reliant rather than basing strength on mass mobilization.

But the part that bothers me is that a lot of the work nowadays is on a computer and not as active as it used to be. At least what earns a living anyways.

Wait...you mean the military can exclude recruits for being obese? That’s discrimination I tell you! We can’t have that.

I have recently read that Recruits must Have an IQ of 85 or higher to be considered.

And this has become a huge problem.

Low-fat diets could raise the risk of early death by almost one quarter, a major study has found.

The Lancet study of 135,000 adults found those who cut back on fats had far shorter lives than those enjoying plenty of butter, cheese and meats.

....

Participants eating the highest levels of carbohydrates – particularly refined sugars found in fizzy drinks and processed meals – faced a 28 per cent higher risk of early death.

During follow-up, we documented 5796 deaths and 4784 major cardiovascular disease events. Higher carbohydrate intake was associated with an increased risk of total mortality (highest vs lowest quintile category, but not with the risk of cardiovascular disease or cardiovascular disease mortality. Intake of total fat and each type of fat was associated with lower risk of total mortality ; saturated fat, monounsaturated fat and polyunsaturated fat. Higher saturated fat intake was associated with lower risk of stroke. Total fat and saturated and unsaturated fats were not significantly associated with risk of myocardial infarction or cardiovascular disease mortality.

Interpretation

High carbohydrate intake was associated with higher risk of total mortality, whereas total fat and individual types of fat were related to lower total mortality. Total fat and types of fat were not associated with cardiovascular disease, myocardial infarction, or cardiovascular disease mortality, whereas saturated fat had an inverse association with stroke.

Global dietary guidelines should be reconsidered in light of these findings.

“70 percent of today’s youth are not fit to serve in the military due to obesity or being overweight, criminal records, drug misuse or educational deficits.”

Perfect cannon fodder recruits as dumb-ass Nazis in infata.

A friend of mine’s grandson couldn’t get into the army because of his hearing. Army said they’re getting alot of kids whose hearing is too poor. Ear buds are bad news.

Most aren't jumping up and down to get into the military and the military doesn't want them.
seems like win-win to me.

If I was eighteen years old today I would have an extensive criminal record, the were at least three of four times the police pulled me over when intoxicated, took my beer and followed me home to make sure I did not do anything stupid Not to mention the two times we were smoking pot in the parking lot of a bar and the police knocked on the window and told us we should head home ASAP <p

Today those offensives would land me in jail with a criminal record.

Not really news to me. Spent 5 years as an Army Recruiter, I could, with very little effort, disqualify 50% of an entire highschool graduating class in a matter of days. To stupid, fat, criminal background, no documents, ect....

Seems it gotten more prevalent.

The pool of young men is large enough to flesh out an army. The problem is that the Romney boys don’t want to serve. Resume conscription.

When I started BCT (many, many years ago) I wasn't really obese but I was completely out of shape. The Army fixed that in a hurry...after a couple of weeks I could run and do pushups with the best of them.Of course I wasn't doing drugs and didn't have a criminal record at that time.

When I went through Marine Corps basic in 1973 there was a fat boy platoon. Come to San Diego over your weight limit and you start out in the fat boy platoon and you stay there until you meet the weight standard. We’d see them huffing and puffing by on a regular basis.
