Judgments against cops should come straight out of the union pension fund. Give the union a good reason to oppose dirty cops, because dirty cops cost the union big time.

Everybody worries about money. Under the current system, I don’t think the union has any real reason to worry. Which to too bad.

Excellent idea that should be shouted from the rooftops! Right now lawsuits are settled with insurance which is OUR tax money!

I agree. In the city of Minneapolis, there have a been a number of clearly documented instances when the cop administered a butt-kicking to a suspect who, at the bare minimum, sassed the officer.

The city has paid out so many settlements to victims of police over-reaction. Maybe if the unions had start ponying up the money for these settlements, they’d be a little more on top of the “thumpers”.

Dirty cops do not cost the union big time, although you could argue that dirty cops make the rest of us not trust any cops at all.

Dirty cops cost the taxpayer, to the tune of millions of dollars.. If they were costing the cop unions any money, you can bet your bottom dollar the unions would get rid of them.
