Google Issues Ultimatum to Conservative Website: Remove 'Hateful' Article or Lose Ad Revenue
PJ Media ^ | 8/31/2017 | Tyler O'Neil

"Yesterday morning, we received a very bizarre letter from Google issuing us an ultimatum," Shane Trejo, media relations director of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Michigan, wrote on The Liberty Conservative. "Either we were to remove a particular article or see all of our ad revenues choked off in an instant. This is the newest method that Big Brother is using to enforce thought control."

This is Orwell's 1984 happening in real life right now in America. This is a thousand times worse than Antifa and as bad as the deep state take over of our federal government. This is bad; real bad. Google should not have the power to dictate what can be said on any given site. YouTube and Vimeo are hiding behind policy rules to stop paying channel owners and deleting some videos they deem unworthy of their thought control standards.

This could turn into Tsunami of Big Brother type control practically overnight. We need the government to step in with regulations to stop this kind of behavior since these companies don't have a competitor to go to. They have a monopoly just like utility companies so they must be regulated and regulated fast. Top priority fast. Okay, just under storm Harvey, fast.

But the lady is supposed to bake the cake whether she likes the captions or not.

Funny how that rule doesn’t apply to big, bad Google.

Use DuckDuckGo or Startpage, and the Brave browser.

Screw the little rump ranger commies.

This is way way beyond using its search engine. This is about Google controlling the Internet and what people can and cannot say on any given site. They are effectively censoring the Internet.

You should read the article. I think you will be as shocked as I was about how much control Google has.

That's the plan.

Google needs to be broken into a million pieces—they have passed crazy and gone to dangerous.

We need the government to step in with regulations to stop this kind of behavior since these companies don't have a competitor to go to. They have a monopoly just like utility companies so they must be regulated and regulated fast.

Utilities are regulated monopolies because we pay them.

Google as a private entity can pay ad revenue to whomever they wish.

First Amendment rights do not extend to speech stored on a private server and getting paid for the privilege.

If Google is to be regulated, it should only extend to the level of "public accommodation." They can only delete content from a subscriber that puts Google in direct legal jeopardy (copyright violations, etc.) But they should retain the right to decide who they reward with payment and who they choose to withhold payment.

Demonetization is already happening to most of the YouTube channels I subscribe to, and the channels' responses have been to move to other hosting services such as Full30, and to become funded via Patreon.

There will be something seriously wrong with this country if the government all of the sudden has the power to dictate to a private company who they must pay money to.

I hope I am wrong, but I believe the Trump adminitration will do practically nothing about it.

Those look like Democrat phrases for the Usurper’s campaign 2008 and 2012.

“I hope I am wrong, but I believe the Trump adminitration will do practically nothing about it.”

Why do you want the government to intervene in a civil matter? That’s not good, nor conservative and can easily turn the tables requiring sites, such as the aggrieved website in the article, to carry Leftist content.

The solution is obvious. By removing its revenue chain Google in effect is funding their competitor(s) by forcing content owners to seek sponsors and advertisers.

I didn’t like the google SameThink firing of the engineer. So I switched all my browser search engines to DuckDuckGo. Now duckduckgo gets the referral and ad banner revenue. That’s how it’s done. Let’s please keep government out of it.

Either Google, Youtube, et al are “common carriers” or they are responsible for every single thing that is posted to their websites/sent via their servers.

When they censor political ideas (not porn or copyright violation or other illegal activity) they are “arbiters” of ALL of the content.

From what I understand; Google has a monopoly and that creates a legal problem. At least according to this article. If there are just a few companies who control all the websites and domain names and they can just pull them from an owner; something is seriously wrong.

Some kind of basic regulations to prevent them from stopping earned payment and yanking your domain name must happen along with stopping them from dictating what you can say on your own website. I’m not a lawyer but I do know right from wrong and what google is doing is wrong.

Conservatives are for small government intrusion; not no government regulations. There has to be some to keep bad companies in check and Google is acting like a bad bully. So is YouTube. They should be shut down if they can’t play fair. The gov is the only entity with the authority to do anything. The little guy has no leverage at all and no way to file for grievance; especially against a giant corporation that has more money than God.
