Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert French died Wednesday in a shootout at an Auburn Boulevard hotel, Sheriff Scott Jones said this afternoon. French, 52, died on the way to the hospital, Jones said. He was a 21-year veteran of the department and worked as a training officer with the north area patrol unit.

Far too many LEOs going down; far too few criminals paying the price.
I was following this online this afternoon. It was reported the rifle is an AK-47. Of course it was also reported that a woman was the shooter, so take it with a grain of salt.

The other unfortunate spin off from this kind of assault, it simply makes being a 2A adherent carrying self-protection more vulnerable to being shot by a cop who is now extra wary of ANYONE having a firearm.

Cops always troll motel parking lots for hot cars. Hotels are a magnets for hot cars, criminals, etc because many are transient criminals in nature, or simply one step ahead of being homeless.
Not just firearms. Add to that someone carrying a cellphone, wallet, water-pistol, BB-gun, battery-powered hand-drill, sling-shot, etc. A couple days ago my brother-in-law mentioned wanting to shoot a gopher with a BB-gun and I told him to be careful, not let anyone see him holding it outside lest a SWAT team arrive and shoot him.

Luis Bracamontes and Janelle Monroy are awaiting trial for the murder of two deputies during a day-long crime spree which started in a Motel 6 parking lot in Sacramento in 2014. Police were checking on a suspicious vehicle.
