It's nonsense. A Maryland Congressmen did push for adoption, but I don't see any evidence that there was a major Southern campaign at work.
Union army veterans, Northern baseball teams, Woodrow Wilson, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars all promoted the song.
Morley may have picked up his version from a source that supported the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" as national anthem.
You know what?
I’ll tell you what.
STFU you rotten effing suckbag nasty-a&& POS effing retard flickbunny creepazoid nonentity crapsandwich, and GFTO out of my country, you fascist neo-scumbag waking narcoleptic douchebag. You can just eff off and effing die of painful pancreatic cancer for years, I hope you crawl in a sewer and vomit up your effing lungs, you horsebrained monsterous clownfactory. Not enough bad stuff can happen to you, double on Sunday, and it becomes apparent the concept of evisceration was created JUST FOR YOU! May you dry in the sun, flies swarming, you heinous jackwagoned maladroit plebian barkcatcher.
How prescient! U of Md did.
I was wondering what happened to Bob Grant, a rabidly conservative talk show host in NY. I found him. Laz, Bob, is that you?
Bob died four years ago.
Well, that was one hell of a rant Laz went on. Sure sounded like a Bob Grant rant to me.
Actually, Marse Robert’s hoss was NOT white. It was a beautiful dappled gray, just like George Washington’s in the Valley Forge Prayer painting. Lee would no more ride a white horse, than Patton would pack a revolver with faggot pearl hand grips. Patton’s hand grips were ivory.
CORRECTION: Gen. Lee’s horse was gray, but not dappled gray. He was not that photogenic. He was an American Saddlebred, plain gray with black points. This means his mane, tail, feet and tips of his ears were black. Traveller was NOT a white horse by ANY stretch.
The name Traveler or Traveller has a long history as a horse name. It indicates a horse that has a smooth gait and lots of stamina, hence a good “traveler”. Folks are way past nuts. My son is named Robert and his initials spell REBB. I needed to get all the family names in. However the Robert is for General Lee.
Not to flog the subject, but to attempt to be clear about it; Lee’s horse Traveller was NOT a pretty horse. He was undoubtedly a good horse; “broke to death”, as the Quarter Horse people say. But not flashy. In fact, rather drab looking in photos. Not nearly as pretty as Washington’s dappled gray. But as someone once said, “Therd’s no such thing as a bad color on a good horse.”
Roman cavalry saddles did not have stirrups. Stirrups were not commonly used until the 8th century AD.
Thanks for that. How about you round it out and post the painting image of Washington kneeling in prayer in the snow beside his dappled gray horse, as well?
Thanks again. I’m not smart enough.
its boring and it’s slow - it’s the only song they know.
Mark Twain wrote many humorous short stories in addition to his books. One of them was titled, “The Gen-u-wine Mexican Plug.” That dessicated horse looks about like I imagined the Mexican plug might have looked.
“Little Sorrel” was a great horse but way ugly. A crazy looking horse for a strange but effective person to ride.
Thanks, but that isn’t it. The one in question is - Washington in prayer at Valley Forge. If you do a search, numerous views of it will pop up. I simply don’t know how to post photos. Old dog - new tricks sort of problem.
