Both The Radical Left And White Nationalists Have False Visions Of Western Civilization
The Federalist ^ | August 25, 2017 | Samuel Buntz

Posted on 08/25/2017 8:25:56 AM PDT by Mafe

When the white supremacists assembled on the pleasant greens of Charlottesville were not spluttering racial invective and inciting violence, they occasionally tried to explain their ideology—which, admittedly, does not differ greatly from spluttering racial invective and inciting violence. Yet there is a sliver of argument amid all that hate.

Some have taken to wearing T-shirts urging us to “Defend Europe” or “Defend the West.” These statements imitate conservative arguments about preserving Western civilization against decline, while contradicting the meaning of those arguments and tarnishing them with racist associations. The insights of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Emily Dickinson, Sappho and Leo Tolstoy are not valuable because of their association with an identity. They are valuable because they represent the mind discerning Truth.

The white supremacist pose towards cultural “defense” is a shame and a sham, while the project of defending Western, Eastern, and African civilization against ignorance and decadence is well worth pursuing. By yoking the idea of civilization to racial collectivism, white supremacists do immense violence to the very idea of culture.

The “White Nationalists” ARE the radical left. They got off the same buses in Charlottesville as the BLM, KKK and Antifa morons.

The word “hate” moves the playing field from reason to emotion.

I remember reading that “Unite the Right” was a Soros created and funded entity. I wish I could find the link.

“I remember reading that “Unite the Right” was a Soros created and funded entity. I wish I could find the link.”

There’s no proof of that. It’s a narrative that’s been built up here on FR as far as I can tell. I’d be interested if someone has some actual facts.

There are reasonable people among the KKK and the neo-nazis. The way to convince them that their thinking is flawed is not with a head on approach and a beat down. It is the method used for nearly 50 years. Ignore them, don’t make big societal changes like “fundamentally transforming” or “standing with BLM cop killers” or sitting the police silently on the sidelines, while cities are burned, and people on bullhorns yelling “burn this Mother effer down” while burning down a city. Those things are promoting the exact climate for hatred to grow.

These “bad” people are “white supremacists,” not “white nationalists.”

I am a white nationalist and this forum is filled with nationalists of all colors.

White Nationalists have the benefit of support from the news media and the Left in general, which promote and takes up White Nationalists as a way to smear conservative ideas and causes.

We have once again let the left define the terms of the debate. He who defines the terms of the debate of more often than not is the winner. It also helps to have nearly all of the “mainstream media” carrying your water and performing non stop character assassination on any who disagree with you.

* Nationalism is NOT inherently bad. I am a nationalist. What does that mean? I means I am not a one world government / globalist. It means that my country and countrymen come before other countries. It’s called self interest. Self interest is a necessary survival trait. Particularly if one doesn’t want to be a serf of despotic, leftist, globalists.

* White nationalism? What the heck is that? It’s a made up term with the goal of making it a [fake] synonym with white supremacy. How do we make love of one’s country sound evil? We put the word white in front of it while calling it nationalism and muttering Nazi & Hitler over and over.

* Antifa is a violent fascist organization. But by getting out in front of it and calling all its intended victims “fascists” (with a lot of help from a highly sympathetic media) the average public school numbnuts assumes that it must indeed be “anti fascist” if it calls its enemies “fascist”. This is called circular logic. Circular logic is quite effective with the aforementioned dumbed down numbnuts.

* Start with a generally recognized fact and go from there: Mussolini was an evil fascist. Mussolini got the trains to run on time. Ipso facto on time trains must be fascist and anyone who can get trains to run on time must be a fascist, those who want the trains to run on time are fascists and thus are also evil. Makes sense, right?

I wish the neo-Nazis would just die off. As for the White Supremacists which I don't care for either, they should change their name to American Supremacists. But they're too stupid and set in their white thing to do such a reasonable thing.

F*ck em all. From the Nazis to the White Supremacists to the BLM to the communists to the LGBTxyz types, to the anarchists to the professors who are teaching this hippie crap to our youth. We all die, wish they would die sooner than later by natural causes. It may happen sooner at the rate they're pissing off normal hard-working Americans. The Boomer generation is still here and watching and waiting. The latest riots showed true Americans fighting back. It did my heart good. Also, saw some Gen X in the mix.

The thing these whiners don't understand about pushing patriots too far in this age, is there will be no CWII on open battle fields. It will be a clandestine war by taking out the leaders/agitators. I don't advocate such, but that's how I see a so-called CWII occurring. Think of all the 100's of millions of weapons in the hands of trained hunters and Veterans. Talk about Jihadist cells...think American patriot cells, which are much smarter and know our system better. Think sniper units.

Again, I don't advocate nor want to see such a scenario happening in my lifetime. It would be awful, but if the antFa's and racist groups keep pushing, who knows? I'm waiting for the first shot from the masked antiFa's into a peaceful rally. All bets will be off.

"There are reasonable people among the KKK and the neo-nazis."

You're wrong. They are hate filled racists as the BLM, commies, anarchists. They do nothing positive for our society and only fuel more hatred. F*ck them. Wish they would just go away or die off. Really? Reasonable Nazis? How old are you? Have you never heard, read, or seen what those monsters did in Europe? I would be okay with a bounty on anyone who wears or flys a Swastika.

There are reasonable people among the KKK and the neo-nazis.

Joining either groups eliminates the possibility of reasonableness on the part of the joiner.

I wrote the following after the events described in it:

12:30 PM, January 12, 2002, right around the corner from my home I saw a row of Nazi flags flying, the flag under which dozens of my relatives that I never knew, and millions of my people, were murdered, the flag under which dozens of other relatives and millions of my people were subjected to unspeakable oppression, the flag under which a monstrous evil tried to enslave the world, as the Dark Lord Sauron tried to enslave Middle Earth in the Lord of the Rings.

In 1928, the Saturday night after my father and his family moved to York from upstate New York, they looked out their front door and watched the Ku Klux Klan, hoods, sheets, and all, marching to their weekly cross burning ritual. To a 14 year-old Jewish kid, it was frightening, as it should be to all. It so affected his thinking that, in 1940, when he and Rabbi Goode were asked to found a Boy Scout Troop at the Jewish Community Center, the conditions set by Dad and Rabbi Goode were that no young man would be denied membership on account of his religion, race, or national origin.

As I grew up in York, and attended York High, and watched the racial violence in the South on TV, it was easy to become smug about the notion that York was a multi-racial city, that Yorh High was integrated, that I had several friends who were black. It never occurred to me that, except at school and school functions, I never really socialized with these friends,, except that I just figured that they lived in different parts of the city because of lingering economic effects of past oppression that had been solved by civil rights legislation.

In my senior year, I was shaken out of my complacency. That year, our homecoming Queen was the first black girl to be so chosen in York’s history. The reaction of far too many of York High’s white students was shocking. Even worse was the harrassment we took from friends who were students of county schools. The only thing that prevented a race riot at the homecoming game was the victory over Steelton, the first in several years. (As Steelton players were the worst sports in history, they reacted violently to being tackled or scored upon, and losing infuriated them.) Any riots at that game occured between Steelton and York students rather than between white and black students of York High. We had dodged the proverbial bullet.

In 1969, this was punctuated by the riots. By that time, I was no longer shocked, rather, I was angered by the cooperation between some of the police officers and the criminals and juvenile delinquents who murdered Mrs. (Lillie Belle) Allen.

Since then, this community’s leaders have worked hard, with many bumps on the road, to erase the hate that has separated Yorkers along ethnic lines. Then Matt Hale showed up and downtown York filled up with hatemongers, flying flags that symbolized hatred of anyone who was different, right around the corner from my house.

Just as bad were the people, many of them anarchists and communists, who showed up to confront the Nazis. As I watched in horror, which alternated with amusement, these two ridiculous, uncivilized, mobs stood on opposite sides of the first block of South Queen Street, yelling insults at each other, and at everything that represents the best of America, trying to get at each other. The only thing standing between them was the thin blue line of police officers, who did their job with professionalism and courage in the face of outrageous insults, and attempts, on the part of the communists and anarchists, to break through and riot with the Nazis.

As most Americans have shunned both of these ideologies, and neither side has any mass movement behind them, they are dangerous mostly to the communities in which they show up, and to themselves, and I found myself wishing for a plague to descend on both of their houses. Mostly, they are ridiculous, self-absorbed, self-important egotists, thinking that they have the answers to all the problems of the world.

As it became evident that the police had matters well in hand, I slipped outside, cameras in hand, to record this tempest in a teapot for posterity. It seemed that the Nazis knew just how far they could go without risking arrest, and they went right up to that line, yelling insults that they knew would provoke a violent response from the protesters. Many protesters, wanting to tie the Nazis and the police together in the minds of their supporters, reacted violently, and got arrested, as they had planned to do, failing, however, to provoke the kind of violent reaction from the police that they hoped would radicalize sympathetic onlookers.

When it was all over, I made a point of complimenting every police officer that I saw, telling them how impressed I was at the job they had done. Then, I took six rolls of 35mm film to be developed, shocked at the number of pictures I had taken. So many people had taken pictures of this event, that the photo shop was so inundated with film for processing, that they could not finish mine until this (Sunday) afternoon.

This morning, I made a pot of tea, ate lox and bagel, smoked a pipe, read the Sunday News, and thought about what had happened. It’s quiet now, and we can go back to addressing the real problems of our community, such as the city’s fiscal mess. But I will never forget the day the Nazi flags flew around the corner from my house.

“The insights of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Emily Dickinson, Sappho and Leo Tolstoy are not valuable because of their association with an identity. They are valuable because they represent the mind discerning Truth.”

The issue is identity. On one side are people who believe Western Civilization is a product of European people(ie white people in the vernacular). On the other side are people who believe Western Civilization is a set of abstract propositions with no identity.
