Back in the early 70’s I had a free ride to any state university in Illinois. The Illinois State Scholarship program. You had to undergo testing and score high. It did not cover room board and books but the free tuition helped. otherwise I would not have been able to go.

We have been buying imported goods because the Fed has been printing money. In essence, it has been printing prosperity and creating the false notion that you can get something for nothing. The problem, of course, is that the side effects of massive debt and inflation will eventually have to be reckoned with. So far, the Fed has been unable to find a way to unwind its huge balance sheet and normalize interest rates without destroying markets. They have a tiger by the tail.

Close the colleges and just mail the prospective students their diplomas. It would be a lot cheaper in the long run, and it would get rid of the community college indoctrination profs.

Too many diplomas are about a valuable as participation trophies anyway.

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of people to take money from.” -—Margaret Thatcher

*************

Actually, there are two problems. The erosion of individual freedoms is the other as the government seeks ever higher taxation and regulation over economic activity, and seeks to silence those who resist the growth of big government.

There is actually a pile of people who take out student loans and then drop the classes in order to get a refund. That’s free money if you never pay it back.

NY just started a "free" program this year for the state SUNY system.
Comrade Governor Cuomo will never admit defeat so I expect more and higher taxes - soon.

Hard lesson to learn that there’s no such thing as a free lunch or college tuition.

WOW. Even of I knew of a loan program back then I would not have borrowed. that’s not the way I was raised. Heck, my Dad and Mom never even had a checking account or credit card.

Vermont (Bernie Sanders country) tried their @sses off to get a single-payer h/c system going but it failed.

What a surprise.

Any legislator who cares a whiff about actually representing their constituency, truly wants them to have healthcare options, and understands even the basics about economics (I know, I've really limited the number of knowledgeable politicians), knows that SP won't work.

Single-payer is a means to control people, not provide healthcare.

That was well put. I never quite looked at that aspect. We finance our trade deficit with printed money. People think “weeze been robbed by dim Chicoms”. I say we are stealing the Chicoms blind. They are stupid for enslaving themselves to make and sell us cheap stuff. Then to beat all, they accept US paper in exchange for their blood and sweat.
