Around 20 firefighters were treated to breakfast after fighting a Morgan Hill-area grassfire through the night, according to ABC 7 News.
The fighters, who reportedly came from different South Bay Area firehouses, visited Scrambl'z in Morgan Hill for breakfast on Aug. 12 after their long night, racking up around $400 in charges on their meals.
A standing arrangement with Scrambl'z says that firefighters may eat there for free and, at a later time, a financial services employee will stop by to pay the bill.
In this case, however, the employee who came to settle the tab found that the firefighters were already square with the restaurant someone paid the bill for them.
The good Samaritan has remained anonymous, but Division Chief Jim Crawford says the firefighters are grateful.
"As much as that person wants to remain anonymous," Crawford says, "is as much as we would like to thank them."

If they are in a public union nobody should be paying for them. They should be buying free meals for the people paying taxes that allow them to retire millionaires at an early age.
Sheesh. Firefighters just saved our Mariposa house in July and I don’t care what union they’re in; if I had a clue which firefighters from where did the deed, I’d LOVE to buy em all steak dinners!!! At the very least.
Amen!
Great. Nobody’s forcing you to do it. I know firefighters, who are total a-holes, in public unions who have enough free time to keep up with two or three side jobs while they are on duty. I also know the taxes used for their benefits, or as they are now called fees, are regressive and way too much. For some people they are as much or more than all their other taxes combined.
Bless the ones who are volunteers or not in public unions.
Googled it. Nothing fancy - an old fashioned diner. The kind of place I love for breakfast.
Charlie Tuna
I go there once a month with a friend who has been going there since forever....
Luv it...
Scrambl’z or Bettsy’s....great places to eat...
exactly - whoever did this doesn’t understand how generous firefighter pensions are.
I agree - here in NY State, I get calls from the PBA and State Troopers Assoc. all the time. I tell them - I respect your work, but my small business is struggling under Fed.gov regulations and health care cost goes up several thousand $$ every year, so do taxes. I have no pension and whatever I manage to save gets 0% interest because the Fed is busy buying up government debt to keep government afloat.
Meanwhile, you guys have pay, healthcare, pension, vacation - everything guaranteed.
Their telemarketers have usually hung up on my by that point....
Call your firestation.
” I get calls from the PBA and State Troopers Assoc. “
Most likely the calls are from a commercial fundraising organization that gives 5% to the troopers,
Wait till they find out that Trump paid personally! LoL
These calls are usually from phonies.Next time ask them what PBA they represent? Chances are they'll hang up.
Do you have the stones to spray water on a propane tank 20 feet from a house with 15mph winds blowing a fire directly at you?
Many years ago I got a call from someone who said he was from some Police Association. He was looking for donations. It was a time when I was scrimping but I figured it was a good cause so I said okay, I’ll donate.
The man asked me what I wanted to donate - $50, $75, etc. I was shocked and replied, “I couldn’t do that. I was thinking about $5 or $10 dollars.” That was a lot for me at the time.
The guy hung up! LOL I am still laughing about it.
How often does your job put your health and your life in jeopardy? That justifies a generous pension and good health benefits, don’t you think?
Lots of Silicon Valley millionaires around Morgan Hill.
In the late ‘90’s it had gotten so out of hand that upper-scale shop employees all over the bay area were warned to not judge people in the shop by appearance or behavior. They could be someone who had just made their first 10 million in yesterdays IPO.
My housemate at the the time, Charles, was closing his brother’s art gallery, located on Union Square in San Francisco, at the time.
As he was locking the front door, he noticed somebody with scraggly hair and beard, wearing dirty, threadbare clothes looking in the front display window. Mindfull of the warning, he asked if he could help the guy. The guy asked to come in and look around, so Chuck let him in. He wandered around looking at the art for less than ten minutes, thanked Chuck politely, and left.
The next day the guy, dressed a bit nicer now, came back with an entourage of three large men, all carrying suitcases. He asked to see the owner/manager, then walked through the shop, gesturing at complete walls, saying, “I’ll take this one, this one, this one,.....”
All told, nearly a million dollars worth of art, at retail prices. The suitcases carried by the entourage were filled with cash, which paid for the art. The guy said that he would send a U-Haul for the stuff, after it was packed up.
The “guy” turned out to be Jerry Garcia. Not a software/internet millionaire perhaps, but an example of why you can’t judge people by their appearance in the greater San Fran Bay Area.
NO. The number one most hazardous job in the USA usually rotates between lumberjack, commercial fisherman, and construction trades. Taxi drivers and convenience store clerks usually make it into the top ten. Cops are ranked in the 20-30's. In 2011 there were roughly 850,000 sworn peace officers in the United States.[1] That same year, there were 140 officers who died in the line of duty, of all causes. More than half were due to accidents (car, fall, etc...) This computes out to 17.5 deaths per 100,000 officers.
So in fact, I have a higher chance of dying on the job than a police-officer.
This tax-donkey has worked his life supporting government at all levels, and I've had enough of slavery to all government employees, who get everything GUARANTEED.
