Good to see Breitbart facing up to reality more than too many folks here are ready to do:

Watch the rally tonight and see what President Trump says about immigration.

I do. I don’t think they care what he campaigned on. They just get up every day and do their jobs to the best of their ability. They think one minute they are going to be sent to this place then that place then another place. But they spend their time trying to be prepared. (Marines)

What he says and what he does could well be two different things. As he staked out last night, things could look different to him sitting at the presidential desk.

I mean, just look at who he has populated his admin with!

Trump has already said (last night) that he sees things differently now that he’s president.

There have been rumors about this for months—and you know that Jivanka are big on the liberal, amnesty approach.

I have dealt with a lot of soldiers there in the past 17 years

Trump did not campaign on a surge. They have a job to do...but I could tell you oh so many things about what happens to them there from first hand accounts on the ground from men and women who lived it every day

What is the end goal.

No one wins in afghanistan..

So here we go again....

But no one should be pretending that trump campaigned on this surge

Oh, and no wonder Trump says he won’t divulge the new troops count for Afghanistan (though a “senior official” said the number was 4k for now)—McMaster wants 80k! (Of course, that is different than the 150k McMaster reportedly wants to slip into Syria for his ‘regime change’.)

I will be shocked if it is only 4k. He is right about green troops

I use to often pick people I would send care packages to based on them being new..not having much support from home...little money...no supplies at camp...

I never sent big ticket items but there were often people who did not have adequate big ticket items and would list specifics that they needed...like Kevlar and scopes

I hate to see another big clusterf### surge

The Trump position concerning Pakistan will be the test of how much his goals with Afghanistan are a successful break with the past, or not.

His talk is of putting Pakistan on notice for responsibility for the terrorists who get safe harbor in Pakistan, from which they freely drift back and forth in and out of Afghanistan, in between the violence they cause in Afghanistan.

That’s all 100% true.

However, from the man on the street in Pakistan, the war on the Taliban and other extremists has taken a greater toll, per capita, on the people of Pakistan than it has on the U.S.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/in-its-own-war-on-terror-pakistan-piles-up-heavy-losses-1394504943

How it is possible that (a) most likely when Osama Bin Laden was found he was known by Pakistan intelligence to be there and they never told us that; we had to find it out ourselves, while (b) THEY HAVE BEEN fighting the Taliban and others within Pakistan for years and have the police, military and civilian deaths to show for it. Both conditions are also all true.

To the west Pakistan has and is a society and culture of stark contradictions.

My guess is that we can attempt more pressure on Pakistan, and they will continue to fight the Taliban in Pakistan, but they will not kill their intelligence service cozy relations with them or with the terrorists seeking to make attacks in India, AND they will do what every Pakistan leader has done when pressured “too much” by the U.S. - cozy up to China.

But Trump wants China’s help with North Korea. Will their answer be for Trump to ignore their building relationship with Pakistan, while things continue to not improve in Afghanistan, and the Taliban remains a cross border phenomena spanning Pakistan and Afghanistan, and the violence continuing with it.

I am not as certain as maybe is McMaster that we can actually get any leverage trying to pressure Pakistan. Their civilian population is more war weary of fighting the terrorists than ours. China is and will offer them billions for infrastructure and even more so if they ignore pressure from the U.S. Does McMaster have an answer to that? I don’t think so.

I believe that’s one of the reasons the US is bringing India into the group.

Unlike the United States, India has a deep understanding of the inner workings of Pakistan...plus, they’d be more than willing to help hold them “accountable”.

President Trump is a master a finding pressure points to use in negotiations.

India may know a lot, even a lot about Pakistan, but it is yet to be seen just how much Afghanistan wants to anger Pakistan (as Pakistan does not want expanding Indian influence in Afghanistan, for any reason) while also seeking Pakistan help to quell the Taliban.

What Trump wants and what India wants and what India can do, is not an explanation of what Afghanistan and Pakistan WILL do, or not do.

The theory of it is untested in modern times, but it has historical precedents that were not successful.

Pakistan will likely also increase cooperation with Iran, which sits across Afghanistan’s opposite border, and whom would also like Afghanistan to be less chummy with the U.S. The Mullahs in Tehran are even aiding Sunni terrorists in Afghanistan in hopes of pressuring Afghanistan in its direction.

I am not sure how great a piece of the puzzle - for peace- India will turn out to be, no matter how great a piece it may want to be.
