You got my friend, Heroin is making a big comeback and Afgans grow it all over

Italians bring it over and the Mexican and Black gangs distribute it

I remember that after 9-11 the news media blamed the President because we DID NOT go into Afghanistan after the Russians left, to prevent a Taliban takeover.

If we HAD gone into Afghanistan after the Russians left, they would have blamed the President for trying to “create an American Empire” and denying the Afghans the right to chose their own future.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Well, stupidity is found in all corners and to even the most extreme degrees.

Like people with such massive military incompetence that not only can they not distinguish the difference between a situation which calls for punative warfare and one which calls fo occupation... they trumpet that stupidity proudly to experienced military personnel who have the competence they utterly lack.

Trust the MSM to give these zombies a megaphone.

We’ll have to fight them over here anyway because we are importing them daily.

We never should have tried “nation-building”, particularly in Afghanistan.

Did you know that the minerals of Afghanistan are mined and owned by China? We are essentially protecting Chines business. Absolute truth.

Ha! ALL minerals??

Do you have a link for that BROAD statement??

You mean copper?? Just one reserve....that the govt of A has been stalling?

What is your explicit goal, here, n00b?

Whose side are you on? It certainly doesn’t seem like Pres Trump’s. :-(

China is the key there.
Not just access to resources in the region but, more importantly, passage for Chinese goods to the Mid East.

Pakistan and Iran want Chinese money and have started recieving it for transportation development. Now they will profit by supporting the Afghan government instead of the terrorists.
The Silk Road runs through Afghanistan.

I can’t see staying in Afghanistan to take rare minerals and gems from the locals when we can send a team of skilled gem collectors to Afghan’s local flea markets to buy what we need.

Oh sure...!

Let’s build HUNDREDS OF GIRLS’ SCHOOLS OVER THERE....!

(which will get burned down the next day and all the students will get their noses cut off)

TWO DECADES OVER THERE..!

WHAT did we get, huh...?

At many points we were paying our troops to GUARD POPPY FIELDS.

For HEROIN.

We got NOTHING.

A damn good reason to pull out then. I am sure the Chinese will not be reluctant to solve the islamic problem. I am tired of American blood and money going for something that does not seem to have any direct benefit for us. They always resent us us and we never seem to “stomp” on the problem, just whittle it down some.

You nailed it. The reason everyone, Russia, China, India want Afghanistan is because of its untapped resources.

Gold, silver and platinum, significant quantities of iron ore, uranium, zinc, tantalum, bauxite, coal, natural gas and significant copper, and at the top, lithium which is used in electric car, computer and cell phone batteries.

Simplest, most cost effective security solution?

Ban entry into the USA for any Muslim from Af-Pak, even if coming from 3rd country.

I'll take "US Military options off the table in Afghanistan" for $1000, Alex.

Re: “The U.S. cannot let this battered land fall to terrorists...”

I disagree.

Just put Afghanistan on notice that the next time we have to come back, we will be using tactical nukes, and we do not care how many innocent Afghan lives are lost, or if their land is poisoned by radiation.

Well, that is my view too. What is victory? 16 more years of military expense and lives? I am lost as to where we are going here. Let me give you an example. Obama sent 30,000 additional troops with an announced date of withdrawal of 18 months. What a dumb ass but 30,000 troops did not work and we are sending 4000? At one time ,we had 100,000 in Afghanistan , It didn’t work. !!! Islam has 17 different jihadi tribal factions like the Taliban in Afghanistan . Taliban is the largest at 45,000 est. but the others comprise a huge number . But these armies don’t stand and fight. Them embed in the people and use IEDs, snipers and infiltrate training units and kill our trainers. The damned place is floating on heroin and the minerals are all mined by the Chinese. We protect their mines!!

Not if we don't import them.

As it is, even if we win over there, we have a couple of million of 'refugees' who will be pissed that we won over there and will cause trouble here.

Rumsfield was wrong. We fight them over there, and then bring them here to fight them here.

Short of genocide or a monarchy backed by mercenaries, there's no way to prevent a fundamentalist islamic regime in Afghanistan. One will be voted in at first democratic election, or by coup if no such election happens.

Build the Wall. Bring our boys home.

Unfortunately, neo-con foreign policy means we will need our boys here.
