Former DHS Secretary: Removing Confederate Statues Is A Matter Of National Security

Statues of Lincoln, Catholic saints, and Confederate generals have been in the political debate as of late. There are even a few commentators who want to tear down monuments to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. It’s out of control, but then again—that’s the progressive Left. Now, former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson says it’s a matter of national security. He made the remarks to ABC News’ Martha Raddatz on This Week Sunday. Our friends at the Washington Free Beacon clipped the exchange

Jeh Johnson: Removing Confederate statues a matter of 'homeland security'

"What alarms so many of us from a security perspective is that so many of the statues, the Confederate monuments, are now, modern-day, becoming symbols and rallying points for white nationalism, for neo-Nazis, for the KKK, and this is most alarming," Johnson said. "We fought a world war against Nazism. The KKK reigned terror on African Americans for generations."

"I salute those in cities and states who are taking down a lot of these monuments for reasons of public safety and security," he added. "And that's not a matter of political correctness. That's a matter of public safety and homeland security and doing what's right."

Now, the former DHS secretary did, however push back on the nonsense that we need to scrub our Founders, noting that a lot of African Americans already understand that Jefferson and Washington were slave holders. Johnson noted he has cousins whose names are “Washington,” and they’re proud to have that name. Refreshing to hear, though the whole notion that these statues, which have been in full display of the public for decades, only represent a national security matter now is a bit ludicrous.

[Jeh Johnson was and remains a threat to national security.]

Correct

Why doesn’t he just put on a bow tie and come out as who he really is? Oh, that’s right. Because a few more might figure out him, his former boss, his associates.....

Ridiculous to give an insurgent like this “press” coverage. But then, insurgency is the MSM goal.

[Yes. Because statues fly into buildings and blow up randomly.]

That’s right! I remember when those four white guy statues hijacked those airplanes on 9/11/2001. And when they shot up that gay bar in Florida. And the statue that attacked at Fort Hood in Obama’s “workplace violence”.

[This is exactly the type of thinking that characterized and directed the Obama administration and will be present during any future Democratic administrations.]

That’s correct - and we’ve had pearl-clutchers wondering on whether to support President Trump. Good gosh.

I think your first sentence summed it up completely.

If they were that bad, then why didn’t he and the Democrats remove them when they had control of the House, Senate, and Presidency?

Were they not a threat or not offensive just a short six years ago?!?

Exactly HOW did the statues change in those six years that made them become national security threats and offensive?!?

In positive news, I saw a post that the Ukraine has finished removing all the thousand plus statues of Lenin. Took them three years. But there are no more statues of Lenin there, I guess not at least in public places.

I don’t go along with the “keep the Confederate monuments so we can remember our history” argument. There is a certain honor in being represented by a statue. I don’t want statutes to Pol Pot, or Lenin, or Mao, or Idi Amin. They are an important part of history and should be remembered in history courses and the like. But I don’t want statues up of them. They don’t deserve the honor.

To me the crux of the issue is, does Lee (or Stonewall or similar) deserve the honor? No, if every statue must be of a flawless man. We’d have no statues in that case.

But yes, if in the main they are men who were pivotally honorable. I think an excellent case can be made, using nothing but historical fact, that General Lee and Stonewall Jackson, to name two, were men of great integrity, courage, humility and godliness. Helping to heal the very real divide between the North and South after the worst war in our history, statues of them show that they had a point, they did much right, they were extremely gracious in defeat, and we respect at least some of what they stood for. It does not mean everything they said and did was perfect.

Someone needs to remind “Jeh” that his opinion is now even more irrelevant than it was when he was the hired help. New bossman in the house, Sunshine...

What a f***ing tool. Here is how I now counter this b.s.

Suppose that I am a security consultant from an alien planet in the Altair system who just got off the flying saucer. Explain to me please why Antifa, BLM, and Muslim terrorists don't each present a more clear and present danger to pubic safety than the White Supremecists and Neo-Nazis on a purely statistical level.

Jeh got himself on TV and his wife got him off the sofa, so ... mission accomplished!

And Jeh’s boys are the ones trying to blow up or tear down the monuments. Says a lot about this affirmative action failure.

Dude looks like he needs a helmet and a drool cup. He seems to have missed the urgency of this issue during his tenure.

ALL Confederate Sites, Monuments, Battlefields, Graves, Statues were declared equal in statue to US Military in the 1950/60’s by Order of Congress. Thus defacing of any Military - US or US Confederate is a Federal Offense.
