President Trump has decided on a strategy for Afghanistan that also takes a broad approach toward tackling competing interests in South Asia, CBS News' Margaret Brennan reports.

The White House released a statement on Sunday saying that Mr. Trump will address the nation's troops and the American people on Monday evening from Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia, "to provide an update on the path forward for America's engagement in Afghanistan and South Asia."

Officials expect Mr. Trump to announce a strategy that meets the requests of commanders in the field, allows for the deployment of around 4,000 more U.S. troops, and aggressively pushes Pakistan to stop acting as a safe haven for terrorists.

McMaster wanted a surge of 50,000 more troops. Most of the hawk generals wanted at least 10,000. Bannon and the Blackwater founder Erik Prince had an idea of sending in thousands of contractors.

So all things considered, the minimum level of troops to prevent the Taliban from expanding into more territory.

Not privy to the intelligence that surrounds such moves, I can tell you that I initially trust Trump’s judgment MUCH more than that of Bush who seemed to mindlessly shoot from the hip and had ulterior, politically-correct motives in much of what he did.

Only under Obama. Where the rules of engagement are not to engage.

“CBS News’ Margaret Brennan reports.”

Well that didn’t take long. If they aren’t guessing then the leaks are still flowing. I would suspect if McMaster didn’t get what he wanted he leaked it so deep is my mistrust of this vile man.

Yep and here comes the war mongering Neo Con influence o this admin.

So lets so POTUS praises the protesters in Boston who are made up of violent hateful thugs trying to shut down HIS SUPPORTERS free political speech, and now ramping up troops which he railed against during the campaign. All 48 hrs after Bannon’s exit.

Bannon’s quote in Weekly Standard might be 100% accurate.

“Which of his kids are signing up to go?”

Which one of yours was drafted??

I think when someone volunteers for the military that is their business and not yours.

Ain’t happening. It’s why Bannon exited. He knew what he was fighting for in the WH was a lost cause. He was surrounded and left where he felt he would be more influential to pushing the agenda in which he believes.

It’s a move that will see our presence prolonged and not to win.

My definition of win is a defeated nation totally unable and unwilling to again cause trouble for the USA.

Pakistan has been a big problem, they created the Taliban that came to power in Afghanistan and made it the safe haven for Al Qaeda.

George W postured tough after 9/11 but Pakistan got a pass in the end.

Its insane to have the ‘supply line’ going through Pakistan as well.

The other route is the Eastern Europe-Central Asia one.

I’m not going to be diverted by this from the need for the POTUS to get things squared away back home.

I think that’s why many of us voted for him, to address matters related to this country first.

The Deep State wants war - Afghanistan is an unwinnable black hole (ask the British, Russians), we need to get out NOW.

Mexico and Central American parasite-states are the real enemy to America.

I really think Trump is being taken by surprise by the depth of savagery and treachery in D.C. I think Trump is used to much more straightforward types in business.

But Trump’s a learner and he’ll learn. The problem is much deeper than he suspected I think. But God bless Trump, he will do everything he can to get to the bottom of it and root out all that he can.

With God’s help, Trump and the rest of us will see to it that one way or the other, our Free Constitutional Republic is restored.
