When I heard that ABC had cancelled Tim Allens show Last Man Standing, my first thought was: Wait, the guy from Home Improvement? He had another show? I dont really pay a lot of attention to network TV these days.* But millions of people watched it every week, and they were really disappointed.
Allen thinks his show got the axe because hes a conservative and a Trump supporter. (Its possible to be both, Im told.) ABC says it isnt so. AFP:
..
No room on the schedule? For a show that pulled in 8 million viewers on a Friday night? It was the second most-watched comedy on ABC, after Modern Family. Meanwhile, lower-rated and presumably more expensive ABC shows like Agents of SHIELD and Once Upon a Time keep limping along, season after season, and the network keeps finding a place in the schedule for them.

"ABC On Cancelling Tim Allens Show: We Couldnt Find Room On The Schedule For 8 Million Viewers Per Week"
Yeah right, anyone with half a brain knows it was dropped because of Allen’s political views.
That’s all well and good, we know ABC is a lefty organization. What I don’t understand is why someone else didn’t pick it up. Like The CW, or Fox, or TNT or USA or AMC or Netflix or Amazon. It’s a guaranteed money maker with a built in audience.
Don’t you know, the have to make room for the shows about the “transgender” yutes, “funny” bickering homosexual “couples”, and aspiring diverse “rappers”. No room in the schedule for Tim Allen.
I wonder how the ABC affiliates whose stations won’t be getting those 8 million pairs of eyeballs feel about this....
Well, Tim Allen pulls down a pretty hefty salary. One of the "smaller" networks probably could not afford him.
8 million viewers is a huge amount.
The funny thing is that LMS did hit so many of today’s hot topics. Blacks in the neighborhood; lesbians in the neighborhood; knocked-up daughter at age 17; ultra-liberal kook son in law. The writers skillfully created a family with three very different daughters - single mom who becomes a successful restaurant manager; patriotic sports-star daughter & first ever female high school football place kicker, JR ROTC, and aspiring West Point cadet; ditzy daughter who launches her own fashion business while in college and finds her true calling. It was an excellent blend of conservatism (and anti-Obama) with lib themes.
It’s a shame it was cancelled — it probably had one or two seasons left before it wore out. There were some Season 5 episodes where the actors seemed to be going through the motions, but it bounced back at the end.
No doubt ABC has a show ready featuring homosexuals and Muslims that will garner 9 million viewers instead.
There are no non-leftist TV networks, though FOX could build its cred with Trumpsters by picking up the show.
What is surprising is that A&E is owned by A&E Networks which is 50/50 Hearst and Disney, but their schedule is filled with right-leaning shows like Duck Dynasty, First 48, and Live PD, with Live PD becoming its own phenomenon. Maybe it’s a sop to the right; hard to tell.
I only recently heard this was a sitcom with conservative characters. I started watching and learned it was getting cancelled.
We now know that the viewership of the original Twin Peaks was quite good. But the ratings didn't accurately reflect that. Never mind the zillions of letters and faxes which poured in begging them to save the show.
And some years earlier ABC cancelled Police Squad after just six episodes. Why?
Because it was determined that to actually "watch" Police Squad, the viewer had to be paying attention to the screen.
Yup he was blacklisted.
I think abc should have given a 13 episode final season. That would have wrapped up storylines and made everyone happy.
Having ditched cable many years ago, I didn’t know about LMS until I saw the news that it was cancelled. I binge watched it on Netflix and was glad to find something relatively good to watch. Disappointing that there won’t be more episodes, and no doubt it was cancelled for political reasons.
Disney used to be the epitome of family friendly programming ... then they redefined “family” and now they are fighting with Bravo (Proud home network of the Real Housewives series) for the alpha dog spot in the destruction of family values. GLAAD scored the networks in 2015 and found 74% of ABC programming was LGBT friendly.
Hoping another network picks it up. One of the few shows we enjoy watching.
LOL!! Keep killing your profit centers off! While giving consumers more justification not to pay for cable and your sh#t network.
Maybe 62+ million Trump voters will not be able fit any ABC programs into our busy schedules.
