Human rights groups have denounced attempts by the Israeli government to shutter Al-Jazeera’s operations in the country. Israeli officials have accused the Qatari-owned broadcaster of “supporting terrorism.”

Human rights watchdog Amnesty International has criticized the Israeli government for attempting to shut down the Al-Jazeera bureau in Jerusalem. “This is a brazen attack on media freedom in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The move sends a chilling message that the Israeli authorities will not tolerate critical coverage,” Amnesty said in a statement on Monday.

On Sunday, Israeli Communications Minister Ayoob Kara announced the government’s intention to shutter the Qatari-owned broadcaster’s operations in Israel. Kara said he requested that the Government Press Office, responsible for press accreditation in Israel, revoke Al-Jazeera’s operating license and withdraw credentials from journalists working for the channel. However, the move was met with condemnation. […]

Israel has regularly criticized the news network for its coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he wanted Al-Jazeera expelled from the country, in part for its coverage of protests at the Al-Aqsa Mosque at the hilltop compound known as the Temple Mount. …

Cuz Qatar and its allies let all those Zionist media organizations free rein in their countries. It’s only fair.

“This is a brazen attack on media freedom in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.”

A. I. outs itself with this statement as an open supporter of Muslim terrorism.

The Israelis want to clamp down on Al Jarreau? I protest. Why would they do that? He’s a great singer.

Al Jazeera? Oh. Sorry!

Revocations? Withdrawals? What became of the busty Jewess posing as a hotel maid and scrubbing at a carpet stain next to the trash chute?

Israel is not the only Country in the region to ban Al-Jazeera:

“Jordan and Saudi Arabia have recently closed Al-Jazeera’s local offices, while the channel and its affiliate sites have been blocked in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain.

“Lately, almost all countries in our region determined that Al-Jazeera supports terrorism, supports religious radicalization,” Kara said. “And when we see that all these countries have determined as fact that Al-Jazeera is a tool of the Islamic State (group), Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran, and we are the only one who have not determined that then something delusional is happening here.””

What? Did they arrest the staff? Then what’s Amnesty International’s mission got to do with it? Are they some sort of international squawk box now, or are they a non-political organization out to help political prisoners? No prisoners, no role.

Al Jazeera has admirable coverage on all sorts of international issues (far superior to FOX, globally,) but is obsessed with hammering Israel.

Such as?

I’d expect everything out of there to be tinged with the Islamic perspective. There’s a reason its US division failed.

Such as?

In general, there are a handful of networks that actually cover, or send people, to places around the world (such as Africa, for instance,) to get footage and try to tell a news story. The best of these, in my opinion, are France24 (available in English!), maybe RAI, a handful of others, and Al Jazeera. FOX, frankly, is almost exclusively a "US politics and issues" network, as is MSNBC, and is more "opinion" than "news." CNN of course does its best but is so infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome as to make it nearly unwatchable.

Nobody who proclaims that their job is to “provide a global public service and a common editorial stance” (France 24) is going to be thinking about reporting the news.

Fox has leaned further left of late in its opinion programming, but merely because they aren’t “Fox World News” to a sufficient percent for (with all due respect) your taste does not automatically undercut them altogether. Many countries are not friendly to reporters from agencies that are not on board with the “global” left-wing view and are generally pro-American and pro-Israel.

And to say CNN is more reporting than opinion is, again with all due respect, just ignorance about what CNN is.

I understand what you are saying. At the same time I urge you to actually watch these various outlets from time to time and decide for yourself.

I am no apologist for CNN. I can’t stand CNN. But - I monitor them.

I have met, on various occasions over the years, Fox’s people in Israel. (Usually one or two.) They are, in fact, dubiously “pro-Israel,” ill-informed, with lousy contacts, and unconcerned about misleading their viewers. I do find Fox to be irresponsible: wealthy and lazy.

By the way, I will re-state that as someone in the periphery of the “news business” and as an unapologetic Zionist, I do believe that France24, generally, has the most complete and unbiased coverage on middle east issues I have yet seen. And - I do not work for or with them.

Their penchant for publishing biased AFP articles on their website belies that.

Yes. Similar to how Fox News has a lot of AP articles on its website.
