Fast periodically. Early man lived okay without daily food.

Cha-ching! Safest, most effective weight loss with amazing health benefits decried by physicians for at least a generation maybe two.

Fasting increases human growth hormone (HGH). Imagine a caveman that has no food for a week. He's going to need the energy muscle-wise to go hunting. Why would starvation eat the muscle? It wouldn't. That would leave you to shrivel up and die the first time you have no food. I've been seeing stories about body builders going into a fast, THEN beginning workouts because of the elevated HGH.

It tends to reset your body set weight. I took off 20 lbs in May, and although I haven't retained the diet guidelines, I'm still down 20. I was stuck 20lbs heavier for several years. I'm going to start another round, and drop another 20.

if you have arthritis, you might try the longer fast if you are able. I have found that 72 hour fast, from evening Thursday to evening Sunday when I start hurling has made all the difference.

I was told that it would not help osteoarthritis but it did for me.

1. Grow or buy high quality. Skip most grocery store middle aisles, and avoid bakery and dairy.

2. Stay active.

3. Laugh often.

For example, compare the sugar amounts in various yogurts, low-fat and otherwise. The amount of sugar per serving in one variety may be 5 or 6 grams, while a variety right next to it on the grocery shelf may have 30 or more grams.

Good advice and a lot of people get tripped up by this because yogurt is touted as health food. But most yogurts on the supermarket shelf are no better than a candy bar. Especially since high sugar yogurt is marketed as "low fat" - which is exactly what you want to stay away from when you are losing weight. For fat is often traded off for sugar.

Low fat = high sugar almost every time. And sugar makes you fat, not fat.

The best yogurts to eat are actually those that are high in milkfat - they will have the lowest amount of sugar. Look for the cream topped yogurts too. The ones without the gooey fruit at the bottom.

What I do is buy blueberries or blackberries and mix them in with plain or plain vanilla yogurt with at least 6% milkfat. Brown Cow is a good brand and so is Siggis. In fact, Siggis just came out with a 9% milkfat yogurt (actually called skyr as it is from Iceland).

it is actually good, not so gassy, I think the fermentation changes it, and start with the mild.

The best exercise for you is the one that you will do.

The real deal is to cut the carbs out of your diet. at approximately 50 grams of carbs a day, your body will switch over to burning fats instead of carbs.

You will have to substitute adding fats to your diet to keep your weight up.

You also get to go off your diabetes and blood pressure and orchestral Meds.

It worked for me...

I’ve lost a lot of weight by adopting a walking regimen. Eventually however, your body’s metabolism will adjust to the walking and the weight loss will level off. So every now and then, I’ll “reset” my body by being totally inactive for a month or two. I try to time that in the middle of winter!

Low fat = high sugar almost every time. And sugar makes you fat, not fat.

It would be good to point out that all foods produce an insulin spike. Sugars are BAD, and artificial sweeteners are BAD too! It's best to learn to live without sweeteners. I was using artificial sweeteners in my coffee for years before learning this. Avoiding all of it is best.

Also the raw foods, "as it looks from nature" is a great rule of thumb. Eat that stuff, and you're miles ahead of the curve. I don't call it "paleo" I call it real food.

When coming off a fast, eating fats spike the insulin the least, proteins moreso, and carbs a lot. To keep the weight loss going when not fasting, eat bacon! Avocados! Seriously, fatty foods, moderate protein, and low carbs.

Grow or buy high quality. Skip most grocery store middle aisles, and avoid bakery and dairy.

I'm a perimeter shopper myself. But I do stop at the dairy. Eggs, butter and high-fat yogurts are a mainstay of my diet. I especially like the Kerrygold butter as it is from grass-fed cows. A little pricey but delicious. It's so creamy and tasty that I can almost eat it by itself.

I like cheese too. Did I mention cheese? Not the disgusting individually wrapped process cheeses like Kraft but the real cheeses that you have to take home and cut up with a knife.

I started Dr. Furman's Nutritarian diet (no animal products, no processed food, no refined flours, sugar, etc.)

I've dropped 9 lbs. so far and need to drop another 10 to get to 175.

Hitting the gym nearly every day as well.

Surprisingly, eating nothing but plants, seeds, and nuts is definitely not as bad as I had thought it would be.

And yep, it's quite a departure for me to go from the ubiquitous pizza, beer, burgers, and breakfast sandwiches.
