The Diet of many tribes in the northeast and parts of the southwest was based mainly on maize, beans and squash. Even though they were still hunters and fishermen, a large part of the diet came from those food sources.
I wouldn’t refer to their agricultural practices as rudimentary.
Too bad it didn’t affect ISIS in the same way.
It isn’t so-called “global warming.” It’s Indian government policy. For example, the Sikh farmers in Punjab are forced by government policy to pay well above market prices for raw materials and supplies, but forced to sell their crops for well below market rates.
Or more likely, may NOT be.
It may be linked to seeing Hillary Clinton on tv and falling into despair, too.
I remember reading an article that linked the suicides to the patented seeds being sold to farmers. The seed did not save from year to year and buying new seeds was out of budget for the farmers. Let me see if I can find it.
Some even built extensive and sophisticated irrigation systems pre-Columbian.
Potatoes, tomatoes, corn (maize), beans (several types), and squashes & pumpkins are just some of the food plants domesticated and farmed by Native Americans that were unknown in the Old World.
Yes, the Old World, had beans too; but they were broad/fava beans, not out common beans, lima beans, or green beans.
