Idaho blames Trump for big Obamacare rate increases

Idaho's insurance regulator blasted the Trump administration's unwillingness to pay Obamacare insurers as the reason premiums couldrise by up to 38 percent next year.

The state's Department of Insurance posted proposed rates for 2018 Monday. The state's six Obamacare insurers are calling for an average 38 percent rate hike, including a 50 percent increase for the silver plan, which is the most popular of Obamcare's three plan options.

Idaho said the proposed increase for silver plans was because of "the potential refusal by the federal government to fund the cost share reduction mechanism."

Insurers are required under law to lower co-pays and deductibles for lower-income Obamacare customers, with the government reimbursing them. But the Trump administration has not decided if it will make the payments in 2018.

Several other states have pointed to the lack of commitment to CSR payments as reasons for increasing premiums. Other reasons include lingering problems with Obamacare's enrollment, namely that not enough young and healthy people have signed up to offset the costs of sicker patients.

Idaho’s insurance regulator is not “Idaho”.

But I thought it was pretty comical, nonetheless. :-)

Trump needs to follow the obamacare law EXACTLY as written.

And eliminated ALL exemptions. To include congress and unions.

Perhaps the most misleading headline I have ever read.

IDAHO does not blame Trump for the increases.
As in all 1.6 million people there are not up-in-arms
about them.

Some sniveling bureaucrat claiming to SPEAK for Idaho
blames Trump.

Contrary to what the article title suggests, the collective opinion of an entire state, and that of one chair warming government dweeb with an obvious political ax to grind are two entirely different things.

Has the government run out of Fanny Mae funds to raid and Medicare cuts to pay these insurance company buzzards?

Yeah, it sounds like these insurance companies are mad that Trump administration isn’t fulfilling the lofty, empty promises made by the Obama administration.

The cost share reduction mechanism was always meant to be temporary, wasn’t it?

The payments that the Idaho insurance regulator are referring to were being paid illegally by the Obama Admin and have been declared illegal and unconstitutional by the Federal Courts
