You are on the left recessing part of the storm. Little problem in Pinellas County... except US-19 traffic.
What, no Bosco?
LOL My thought as well.
projected to pass directly over me :(
A construction company cut the electrical cables. Man O man, millions and millions of dollars will be lost. Two weeks to repair.
Who pays?
Since then, about 70,000 visitors and vacationers have evacuated Hatteras and Ocracoke islands under two mandatory orders issued by Gov. Roy Cooper. Most were able to drive off Hatteras Island, which is served by the only major bridge to the islands, while the rest have slowly made their way off Ocracoke by ferry. "
Sounds like a mess.
It is raining in Venice, Fl..
Probably 4 inches so far..you start worrying when it gets about ten inches..
Two months ago we were in a drought
Check in is typically not until around 4PM but there are plenty of things to do out there during the day while waiting to check into your house. Much better than sitting in traffic for 5-7 hours on a Saturday afternoon just to get to the bridges!
I can only imagine the chaos out there during this power blackout as we have grown so dependent on electricity.
As for the tropical weather, I don't have a particular problem with the naming of storms. Sometimes they can get too politically correct about it. I remember years ago, certain women being upset about the fact that women names were given to these unpredictable storms. But let's face it, it's a bit silly naming hurricanes after men. Hurricane Ernie? Hurricane Howard? Just doesn't have the cachet of a Hurricane Camille. Or a Hurricane Donna. Like boats and ships, a women's name is a much better fit for a hurricane.
I think it's amazing that technology has gotten to the point where the entire nation can see the development of these storms in real time on the Internet, as opposed to waiting until the 6 o'clock news for the weatherman on TV to tell us - which is how I grew up back in the 1970s.
Not going out again until this storm has passed.
So how about dusting off your storm template and doing a TS Emily post? Asked the mods to change the title of this thread but that hasn’t happened. Interesting that this “nothing” storm caused so much disruption in your neck of the woods. Glad you made it back home safe.
The storm is very small. The eye appeared to be less than two miles wide (guesstimate while driving). Flooding is the main issue. Minor winds—leaves and small limbs, and lots of royal poinciana pods down.
Stay dry down there!
Here's Gov. Scott's Facebook statement on the storm:
As we know in Florida, storms can quickly develop, bringing severe weather to our state in a moments notice. Last night, this storm posed no threat to Florida. Now, after rapidly intensifying overnight, a tropical depression will impact the Tampa area and Floridians must prepare for impacts to Southwest Florida. Just as with last years storms, I encourage Floridians to get prepared and visit FLGetAPlan.com.
Can you tell me how Davis Islands community fared in Tampa Bay?
Davis Island is safe.. TGH (Tampa General Hospital) is on the island. Derek Jeter’s house is fine.
Head to the Sandbar!
No problems reported from Davis Island, which is about 35 miles north of the tiny storm center. The eye of the storm passed directly over our house, and we have just completed most of the yard litter cleanup. Road flooding is the worst problem here.
“Davis Island is safe.. TGH (Tampa General Hospital) is on the island. Derek Jeters house is fine.”
We must have passed each other this morning.
Welcome to FR.
5.56mm
I’ll go to the Anna Maria Oyster Bar...we love it....
