U.S. appeals court ends block on Arkansas abortion pill law

A U.S. appeals court ruled on Friday that an Arkansas law restricting the use of the so-called abortion pill could proceed, overturning a lower court's decision in 2015 that blocked the law a day before it was to go into effect.

The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis sent the case back to the federal district court in Little Rock, telling the court it must estimate approximately how many women would likely be harmed by the law before the case could proceed further.

Planned Parenthood Great Plains, which runs two of the three clinics providing abortions in Arkansas, sued the state in 2015, saying the law would rob many Arkansas women of their right to an abortion.

The ruling said the district court had "abused its discretion" and criticized it for not determining even approximately how many women would be affected.

Planned Parenthood could win its case if the court found a "large fraction" of women seeking abortion-inducing drugs would face an undue burden, but the lower court failed to determine this, the ruling said.

In 2014, only 14 percent of abortions in Arkansas involved abortion-inducing drugs, the appellate court said.

Since when is the law interpreted by “how many will be harmed?”

If that’s the law of the land we may as well pack up and go home, we’re screwed.

How many will be harmed? I’d estimate 100% of the unborn of any mother taking such pill will be “harmed.” Disgusting that our society is going to give some slut’s feelings more consideration than the LIFE of the unborn.

“Since when is the law interpreted by “how many will be harmed?””

Whereas the court was not asking how many women could be harmed medically which is what they should have asked, they asked the right question. They were asking how many women were going to have to go out of their way causing inconvenience and/or possibly not being able to afford the medication if the law was allowed to be placed into affect due to locality. But you can be assured PPH is using it as a source for donations:

As they previously have determined the drug a legal substance, and falls into governing by the FDA and AMA, it is not the government’s position to challenge abortion rights no matter how it is done. (I don’t necessarily agree with that, but it’s the law)

My only problem is the article didn’t stipulate if the drugs used, Mifeprex and misoprostol, were that safe. Here is a site that describes some of the side effects and things that do not match up:

I don’t think the courts should determine the use of drugs for any reason. That should be up to the patient and doctor. (Unless abused)

And the native birthrate plunges into a little steeper of a screaming nosedive...

“Harm”??? How many women would be “harmed”?

For one thing, simply aborting a child “harms” the woman, as has been shown in studies. And these pills themselves can also harm a woman. But what about the “harm” to the unborn baby? There is so much that is screwed up in the whole abortion issue.
