RUSH: How about Jordan Spieth? Did you see Jordan Spieths round yesterday at the British Open? (interruption) Okay, you didnt see it. Jordan Spieth I mentioned this after he won the Masters a couple years ago. What I fine I dont want to sound like an old fogy here. But what a classy guy. Hes 24 in four days.
Hes the youngest player, professional, to win the British Open. Hes the first under 24 to win three majors. Hes from Dallas. He is If you have a daughter, hes the guy you would want your daughter to marry. Hes the kind of guy youd like to have as your son. Hes just I dont want to ruin his image by saying clean cut but the guy is just cultured and mannered. He had one of the greatest acceptance speeches yesterday during the ceremony to present him the Claret Jug, the trophy. The things he said about his caddie, crediting
He just credited everybody. He had the presence of mind to thank everybody. Hes very humble, just ideal. It is the kind of person that gives you faith in the Millennial generation. It was just wonderful listening to this man speak after his round yesterday. Matt Kuchar, who Ive also had a chance to play with The guy has a perpetual smile. Hes like the Joker. He has a perpetual smile on his face. He cannot not smile and he, too, is the greatest guy. Hes 0-for-47 in majors, and he was up one shot with five to go and Spieth hits his drive on 13, 120 yards right of the fairway into no-mans-land. It took 30 minutes before he hit his next shot. Im not gonna waste your time if you didnt see it. But it was really It was well worth watching and it was a classy, classy ending for Jordan Spieth.

RUSH: It just so happens that we have a couple of audio sound bites from Jordan Spieth after winning the British Open yesterday. Here is the first
SPIETH: My caddie Michael (chuckles) for keeping me in it today after not quite an ideal start. I was getting down on myself as anybody, I think, would. And this is as much mine as it is his right now at this very moment, and I really appreciate that, Mikey. You deserve all the credit in the world for this championship.
CROWD: (applause)
SPIETH: Id like to thank my manager, Jay Danzi, also my instructor Cameron McCormick for being there every step of the way this week. This is incredible. This is a dream come true for me. This is absolutely a dream come true.
RUSH: This kind of humility is not seen. Its why Im taking a moment to play this. This is standout. Its sad that it is worthy of note because its so unique. But this kind of humility and particularly from somebody this age, 24 in four days. Here he is commenting on Matt Kuchar
SPIETH: Matt, I really enjoyed battling with you buddy and
CROWD: (applause)
SPIETH: obviously could have gone to either one of us, and I got the good breaks today.
CROWD: (applause)
SPIETH: What a great champion Matt Kuchar is and what a class act. I took about 20 minutes to play one of my shots today, and Matt took it in stride, smiled, and theres not many people I think that would have done that. And it speaks to the kind of man that you are and you set a great example for all of us.
RUSH: Matt Kuchar was within his grasp. Hes 47. Hes an 0-fer in terms of majors. It was within his grasp, and Spieth went minus-five on the last five holes. Incredible.
As opposed to *cough* Tiger *cough*

All kinds of men can win golf tournaments - John Daly, Robert Allenby, Vijay Singh. Nice guys don’t always finish last, but somewhat dubious sorts can also win every so often.
Does Rush need fact checkers ?
young tom morris was 17 years old when he won his first Open. He won 4 opens before he was 22. Died when he was 24
Seve was 22 years old
One of the few times in my life of following sports
, I wanted BOTH of them to WIN!
(maybe Im getting soft in my old age)
What a REMARKABLE finish! Spieth can do it 10 different ways from Sunday...sometimes he hits them straight, sometimes he the best Iron player in the game, sometimes he’s the best long putter I’ve ever seen. He played 13 lousy holes on Sunday and then BOOM! Gotta love this kid.
30 minutes was ridiculous and I’d have been ticked. If you lose your ball, you have 5 minutes to search for it. But if you find your ball, and that’s only because there are thousands of spotters, you get unlimited time to figure out the rules?
Seems stupid and unfair to me.
Yeah, I do kind of have a problem with it. It was obvious he was stalling for time to get his head together.
I don’t know what it is with him in final rounds, but he needs to get it figured out if he wants to try to catch Tiger or Jack.
Did you call into the network and explain the rules to them during the broadcast?
Rush said “Hes the youngest player, professional, to win the British Open.”
Presumably, Young Tom Morris wasn’t a professional when he won the British Open between the ages of 17 and 22—and were there even “professional” golfers back then? But you’re correct that Seve Ballesteros was 22, and had been a professional for several years already, when he won the British Open in 1979.
Could Rush have meant that Spieth was the youngest professional American to win? That wouldn’t excuse his misstatement, but it would explain it.
He is ahead of both Tiger and Jack in number of tournament wins for his age.
Speith played two rounds of golf yesterday - one, through twelve holes and his tee shot on 13, and the second absolutely phenomenal the rest of the course. A well-deserving champion! I hope he wins many more.

Congratulations to Spieth and kudos to Woods who was on track to be the greatest golfer of all time until beset with injuries...........
Virtually every news outlet announcing the win made the same claim..........ain't no big thang......
Rush: “Hes the first under 24 to win three majors.”
Uh, Rush....Jack Nicklaus:
Born 1940
Won 1962 US Open-Age 22
Won 1963 Masters-Age 23
Won 1963 PGA Championshipo-Age 23
