The People’s Liberation Army said its capability to protect China’s territory was “indomitable” and it was ready to step up deployment on the plateau.

The Chinese military on Monday asked India not to harbour any “illusions” about its resolve to protect China’s sovereignty, the latest warning to come from Beijing on the Doklam border standoff that is in its second month.

The People’s Liberation Army, the world’s largest armed force, said its capability to protect China’s territory was “indomitable” and it was ready to step up deployment on the plateau, which is close to India’s northeastern state of Sikkim.

“The willingness and resolve of China to defend its sovereignty is indomitable and we will safeguard our sovereignty whatever the cost,” defence ministry spokesman and deputy director-general of information office Col Wu Qian said in response to a question on the border row on Monday.

“Shaking a mountain is easy but shaking the People’s Liberation Army is hard,” he said, adding Chinese troops had undertaken emergency response measures and would step up deployment and drills in the area.

“The Chinese border troops have undertaken emergency response measures in the area and will further step up deployment and training in response to this situation,” Wu said.

Well, back in 1979 China and Vietnam fought a brief border war, and Vietnam gave the PLA a bloody nose. So who can tell?

China’s “sovereignty” extends into whatever they want.

They’d try to annex California someday but they may not since it might mean having to put up with cultural Marxist loons en masse (unlike cultural Marxist, who are set on a path to destruction of any society they happen to live in, old style Communist tend to still have a vision of having a future for the society they want, however horrific that may ultimately be).

They see their eastern border as Guam. And they are quietly buying up the Midwest US, and they already bought DC. The war for the continental US will be fought between Beijing and Riyadh.

Yep. All China would have to do is “find” some old map that shows that California was once part of China. That’s the technique they used to claim the Spratly Islands.

The question is whether India has the will to face down the Chi-coms if the shooting starts. Indira Gandhi was tough - her successors not so much.
