U.S. investigators seek to turn Manafort in Russia probe: sources

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. investigators examining money laundering accusations against President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort hope to push him to cooperate with their probe into possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia, two sources with direct knowledge of the investigation said.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team is examining Manafort's financial and real estate records in New York as well as his involvement in Ukrainian politics, the officials said.

Between 2006 and 2013, Manafort bought three New York properties, including one in Trump Tower in Manhattan. He paid for them in full and later took out mortgages against them. A former senior U.S. law enforcement official said that tactic is often used as a means to hide the origin of funds gained illegally. Reuters has no independent evidence that Manafort did this.

The sources also did not say whether Mueller has uncovered any evidence to charge Manafort with money laundering, but they said doing so is seen by investigators as critical in getting his full cooperation in their investigation.

"If Mueller's team can threaten criminal charges against Manafort, they could use that as leverage to convince him to cooperate," said one of the sources.

I thought Mueller was highly ethical? Why the flood of leaks all of a sudden? U.S. intelligence leaking dirt on Sessions also.

Zero need for anyone to flip; DJT has already blunted this when he openly floated the proposition of pardons.

I think Comey was the original source of the Sessions leak. Comey is out for revenge and he has lots of friends in high places.

We have "no evidence", from "anonymous leakers", but tell us "such-and-such could happen", which is "bad for Trump" story from the partisan, sycophantic media.

Another "iffa, coulda', woulda', shoulda'.....but didn't happen" effort by Reuters.

People see right through this trash.

Manafort also bought over the counter allergy medication.

People who make meth buy OTC allergy meds.

This could possibly maybe go much deeper than we possibly imagined!

...

Gosh. Is there any other reason a person might do this? If there is I’m sure Reuters won’t report it.

Manafort and Don Jr. can talk freely outside of the hearing, about what happened inside the hearing. Neither of them come to the hearing with any classified information. Anything they say, anything they are asked, all of that can be reported if they want to.

Of 10,000 things of import that dufus writers Ainsley and Walcott could report on, they choose to promote a headline that that continues a line of commie agitprop Russian-Trump collusion nonsense.

Breaking it down:

“Between 2006 and 2013, Manafort bought three New York properties, including one in Trump Tower in Manhattan. He paid for them in full and later took out mortgages against them.”

Yeah, it’s called taking out mortgages for the tax writeoffs.

“A former senior U.S. law enforcement official said that tactic is often used as a means to hide the origin of funds gained illegally.”

Really? Well, I guess that means millions of homeowners and real estate investors across America should be rounded up and frog-marched in a display of public shaming.

“Reuters has no independent evidence that Manafort did this.”

Yeah? Then why report it?

Manafort has some very strange and complex financials dealings.it takes awhile to unravel all of those shell company transactions.

Between 2006 and 2013, Manafort bought three New York properties, including one in Trump Tower in Manhattan. He paid for them in full and later took out mortgages against them.

In AML (anti-money laundering) terms IIRC that's called Integration.

Now there's nothing illegal about paying cash for property. I've done it. What raises eyebrows is if there's no traceability as to where that cash came from in the first place.

If Manafort doesn't have a good explanation as to where the money came from or can point to a source of revenue that enabled him to pay cash for the property I'm guessing Mueller will look to nail his ass to the wall.
