Now that the GOP can replace ObamaCare, it’s suddenly got cold feet
NY Post ^ | July 17, 2017 | Rich Lowry

If the Republican attempt to repeal and replace ObamaCare ultimately fails, it will be a lesson in the wages of political bad faith.

The current path of the Senate bill has plenty of obstacles, including the sheer inertia of the ObamaCare status quo and the fact that no one has made the public case for the Republican legislation. But the effort also suffers from a mismatch between the longtime public posture of Republicans (ObamaCare must and will be fully repealed) and their private misgivings (do we really have to do this, even partially?).

It’s not just that Republicans have said for years that they would repeal ObamaCare — they actually voted to do it. In December 2015, a bill passed the Senate that was more stringent than the version now struggling to collect GOP support. The 2015 bill only tried to repeal ObamaCare (although it fell short of that goal), while the current bill attempts to repeal and replace, i.e., forge a Republican alternative.

Only two GOP senators voted against the 2015 repeal, Susan Collins of Maine, who is still a “no,” and Mark Kirk of Illinois, who is out of the Senate. Every other Republican was on board, and celebrated a righteous blow against ObamaCare.

Churchill said that nothing is so exhilarating as getting shot at without consequence. For Republicans, nothing was as exhilarating as repealing ObamaCare without consequence.

I'm glad this stupid bill is dead and hope the GOP gets exposed as the liars and artful dodgers they are. With all the repeal bills passed during the Obama years now forgotten they have shown that it was nothing but a sham designed to dupe voters into believing they actually gave a rat's patootie about their constituents. Trumps should be publicly shaming them.

Trump can issue an executive order eliminating every stinking exemption to Obamacare.

Why hasn’t he? This is bullshit.

Do you know if he could also issue an executive order allowing insurance companies to operate in all 50 states and people to buy from wherever they want?

The entirety of congress has abdicated it’s responsibility to the American people. How many ways do we have to say no to bailing out insurers or businesses? I can’t think of any reason we shouldn’t get term limits. Also get rid of their lifetime benefits. If congress isn’t a welfare program for the elites, I don’t know what is.
If they aren’t going to do their job, then they need repealed every three terms, no lifetime benefits.

Most of the GOP are the same. They hang the “conservative” label around their necks at election time and spout a bunch of platitudes to get our votes, then toss that label in the trash afterwards.

The Uni-Party occupies 85% of the seats of power in DC. I won’t call it “Washington”, as he would be shocked by what it is.

This is a fight to the death to restore some semblance of our Republic. People like Ryan and McConnell are just as much enemies of ours as Pelosi and Schumer are.

Once you wrap your mind around that, the last 8 years, and what’s happened since our President has been in office, becomes clear.

Just repeal it. Use one of the 7+ proposals that the house and senate have previously approved, now do so again and let Trump sign it. Pathetic that these members of congress were so willing to do so when there was zero chance of it getting signed, but not so when it will get signed. Shows their true colors. Especially telling that they even exempt themselves from the repeal, just like they exempted themselves from its adverse impacts. Only the public gets screwed, only the public get played.

Trump can issue an executive order eliminating every stinking exemption to Obamacare.

President Trump can also issue an executive order extending every stinking exemption to Obamacare to everyone in the U.S.

Don't laugh ... I've been saying for several months that this is exactly what I expect to happen if Obamacare isn't repealed by the time 2018 insurance renewals start going out later this year.

A lot of it is the GOP enriching themselves with Obamacare too.

Black Women Face Devastating Losses If Obamacare Is Repealed

The cowardly GOP cares more about the Takers than it does about those who are being bankrupted and forced to pay for others subsidies.

I said back in 2010 that once ObamaCare became an entitlement, it could never be repealed.

Looks like I was right.

yet Republicans can pass this scam!!!

17 Jul: NYT: ADAM NAGOURNEY: California Extends Climate Bill, Handing Gov. Jerry Brown a Victory
The measure was approved by a two-thirds majority in both the Assembly and the Senate, a margin that Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, had insisted lawmakers meet to avoid any potential legal challenges. In the end, eight Republicans voted for the bill, affirming what many described as the need to deal with climate change and differentiating themselves from Republicans in Washington...

He already started that earlier. Probably will increase it if the Congress doesn't actually do anything.

Did anyone doubt for a moment that the only reason why the Republicans passed repeal bills when Obama was in office was because they knew without a doubt that he’d veto them?

That is my first choice as well, but it will never happen. Too many Republicans are part of the swamp. It was easy to pose in 2015 as being against Obamacare because they knew he would veto their bill even if it got past the Senate. In 2017, too many voters have gotten drunk at the public trough of increased Medicare funding and the FIRST and ONLY rule in D.C. is to get re-elected.

I still think John (the weasel) McCain scheduled his eye surgery to delay voting on the bill in hopes the pause would find a few more senators dropping support and causing the vote to be cancelled.

That way he wouldn’t have to go on record as a yes or no vote.

Would it be racist if congress stopped Trump? There's your answer.

If Obamacare was an "entitlement" like Social Security or Medicare then you'd be right.

This is a very different case. The worst provisions of Obamacare are the individual and business mandates, as well as the regulations on insurance companies that require them to cover a whole range of medical services with no limit on coverage.

1. The individual mandates are hardly an entitlement. In fact, they're so stupid because they're the equivalent of telling someone: "Either pay 5% of your income in Social Security taxes, or pay a fine of $1,500." Obamacare is falling apart because a lot of people are just laughing and saying: "OK -- I'll pay the $1,500 fine ... except that it just got waived by President Trump."

2. The business mandate is pretty much the same. A business owner who is required to provide health insurance for every employee who works more than 30 hours in a week simply says: "OK -- I'll make sure nobody works more than 29 hours a week." Their herd of part-time employees then goes through the process described above in Item #1.

3. The insurance companies forced to operate under those stupid restrictions have the easiest way out of this "entitlement." They simply say: "OK -- we're not offering insurance anymore in States A, B, C, D, etc."
