Former Soviet Counter Intelligence Officer at Meeting With Donald Trump Jr. and Russian Lawyer
NBC News ^ | July 14, 2017 | Ken Dilanian and Natasha Lebedeva

(Currently Breaking News On NBC)

WASHINGTON — The Russian lawyer who met with the Trump team after a promise of compromising material on Hillary Clinton was accompanied by a Russian-American lobbyist — a former Soviet counter intelligence officer who is suspected by some U.S. officials of having ongoing ties to Russian intelligence, NBC News has learned.

NBC News is not naming the lobbyist, who denies any current ties to Russian spy agencies. He accompanied the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, to the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower attended by Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort.

The Russian-born American lobbyist served in the Soviet military and emigrated to the U.S., where he holds dual citizenship.

Veselnitskaya acknowledged to NBC News that she was accompanied by at least one other man, though she declined to identify him.

The presence at the meeting of a Russian-American with suspected intelligence ties is likely to be of interest to special counsel Robert Mueller and the House and Senate panels investigating the Russian election interference campaign.

Contacted by NBC News, representatives for Kushner and Manafort declined to comment. A lawyer for Trump Jr. did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Veselnitskaya, in an exclusive interview with NBC News, denied having any connection to the Kremlin and insisted the meeting was to discuss sanctions, not the presidential campaign.

I heard in the background on MSNBC that Don Jr.'s attorney just responded. I missed the statement he gave. I'll update with it if I get it.

Of course, this doesn't invalidate his story of what went on in the meeting. This doesn't prove collusion, but expect the liberals to say that this person in the meeting was surely plotting the hacking of DNC and Podesta emails with Don Jr.

sick of hearing this crap. It is all B/S pushed by the Dem party to deflect attention away from the crimes of the Clinton crime family, and obama/Jarrett.

I wonder if the media knows that in his lifetime, Trump met with many people of various nationalities other than Russian.

The entire episode was boiled up by the DNC.
The drive-bys are willingly complicit.

Currently trending nationally on Twitter, and one of Hillary’s people, Peter Daou, is claiming that the Trumps colluded in the open. The liberals are in their usual state of Russia induced hysteria.

I’m trying to figure out what this proves. A lobbyist sat in the meeting talking about an issue related to lobbying - the Magnitsky Act. This woman had no visa and was let in the country by Loretta Lynch. She has ties to Fusion GPS. Who is this fifth person? We know the media doesn’t care about outing people, let alone an “evil” Russian, so why won’t they name him? Is he tied to Fusion? Anyway, what the Dems have to prove is that his person colluded with Don Jr. to hack the DNC and Podesta. Otherwise, it’s meaningless.

There was no collusion, but having this stuff come out in dribs and drabs just reinforces the perception that the Trumps are hiding something. And because of that this crap doesn't go away.

I have the update from Don Jr.'s lawyer. This seems like a nothingburger. I didn't expect that woman wasn't going around lobbying alone against the Magnitsky Act. She doesn't even speak fluent English.

Response:

Alan Futerfas, the attorney retained by Donald Trump Jr., confirmed he has spoken to the individual.

"It’s very simple,” Futerfas said. "The person was described as a friend of Emin [Agalarov]’s and maybe as a friend of Natalia [Veselnitskaya]’s.”

Agalarov is a pop star and a client of Rob Goldstone, a music publicist who arranged the meeting with Trump Jr. Agalarov appeared in a music video with Trump when the Miss Universe pageant, which Trump owned at the time, was held in Moscow in 2013.

Futerfas said he has talked with that individual who came to the meeting with Veselnitskaya. "He is a U.S. citizen. He told me specifically he was not working for the Russian government, and in fact laughed when I asked him that question.”

Futerfas confirmed that, “for the purpose of security or otherwise, the names were reviewed” but said Trump Jr. knew nothing about the man's background at the time of the meeting.

When asked about whether he had concerns, knowing what he knows now, Futerfas responded: “I have absolutely no concerns about what was said in that meeting.”

Basically it seems to me Democrats are going after Trump team because they refused to accept this Russian demand. If Trump had cooperated with Obama-Lynch-Putin on this, and had taken the heat for them doing it, they would have let go of him.

This is typical operation of an Obama-KGB blackmail op to force people to work for them or pay consequences, and hence the compromising bait concocted on having dirt on Hillary as a cover

The senate is trying to complete the fundamental change in government that Ds started with Obamacare - health insurance will be a right that federal government is committed to protecting with tax dollars and both parties will compete for who will “protect” that right best (e.g. spend more money).

Whether they think health insurance should be a right or not, that seems like a huge story. But the media is obsessed with a meeting where they agree nothing happened. I’d bet both McConnell and Schumer are happy that there isn’t much news about the senate health insurance plan - they both want this to pass without the people understanding what’s happening.

This is so nonsensical that it defies logic and yet here these idiots are still pushing the same tired stories. The swamp is fighting back very hard and Mueller and his crack team of DNC lawyers are the firewall.
To be sure, there is nothing illegal or improper about the dealing with Russia. They will have to invent a process crime.

It's Kushner who went through vetting and had to revise his forms because of "omissions". It would not be upsetting if he and his wife left the administration and returned to their buddies in NYC. There's nothing about them that shows any acceptance of the Deplorable agenda.

Contrast....Ivanka meets with elite women about subsidies for "entrepreneurs". Melania visits children with chronic diseases in hospitals. Jared and Ivanka spend vacations with elitists in Hampton and Aspen. Trump takes time to have rallies to have contact with his supporters.

Not related, exactly. But it does make one wonder about Kushner priorities and if Jared would do whatever it takes to save himself.

The lawyer doesn’t speak English, so the presence of a 5th person is not surprising. It still doesn’t change anything. No ‘dirt’ was solicited or delivered and there was no contact beyond this meeting.

I read yesterday that she doesn't speak a word of English. So immediately I thought, who was her translator?

Apparently it was this guy.

They say that, even though it would require Boris and Natasha to use the WABAC Machine. And everybody knows only Sherman knows how to run that.

Every single Republican should immediately ask that question of every person they speak with immediately at the beginning of every conversation.

“First, before I answer your question Mr. Stephanopolis, are you now or have you ever been an agent for the Russian government?”

Just repeat it again and again every single day until these idiots drop this nonsense.
