Or asked him to stuff an extra couple of hundred through the slot - then I’d call for help.

I’d have told him to quit being a cheap bastard and gimme my money, I don’t want to hear about his personal problems. /S

When I was a kid, we’d go into a diner, pull out a bunch of napkins and write on one “send help! I’m being held in a napkin factory!!!”. then stuff them back in the holder.

This reminds me of that...

Same. I woulda been looking for Ashton Kutcher to come out and say “You’ve been Punk’d” or something similar.

Many years ago, when I worked in a pretzel factory, one of the stoners would mold small phallic figures from dough and send them through the ovens. We caught most of them. Some made their way into bags and to stores. I only heard of one complaint.

Between parents that cared, nuns and Allan Funt, a generation grew up looking over their shoulder before picking up a wallet or something that was seemingly untended.

Used to carry 5 gallon fuel cans back of my pickup and had them chained with dime a store chain and a flimsy lock.

The theory being all the lock does is keep an honest man honest, if ‘they’ wanted the fuel bad enough they would have stolen the whole truck.
