Beijing denounces U.S. B-1B bomber flight over South China Sea

By Elizabeth Shim Contact the Author | July 7, 2017 at 9:27 AM

July 7 (UPI) -- China issued a warning after two U.S. B-1B bombers took part in a joint drill with Japan in the East China Sea, then flew over the South China Sea.

Beijing's foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told reporters at a regular press briefing on Friday that China is "adamantly opposed to acts that undermine China's sovereignty," South Korean news agency Yonhap reported.

China claims sovereignty over nearly the entire South China Sea, a claim the United States has challenged.

On Friday Geng said he had "confirmed reports" of the B-1B Lancers, but "details of the situation have not been determined."

"China does not have problems with freedom of navigation or flights over the East China Sea and the South China Sea, and respects and supports those freedoms in accordance with international law," Geng said. "But China is opposed to individual countries making a show of force while waving their flag. China is adamantly opposed to actions that undermine sovereignty and security."

So, which is it? Either the SCS airspace/sea lanes are for freedom of navigation or they are violations of your sovereignty.

I think they were flying over the waters around China's man-made islands, which China consider as their territorial waters.

Gee China didn’t send up any phony hot-shot so-called fighter pilots to intercept the B-1s and do loop-the-loops around them.

I wonder why that is?

Getting radar shined by a Lancer makes the crew’s grapes turn to raisins and become little girly men.

Maybe because China might lose interceptors. Screw China. The Chinese have been screwing us with supplying North Korea with weapons and missiles for years. China better watch out or they might find our what the B-1 can do.

Lancer doesn’t carry any offensive weapons other than offensive electronic countermeasures. And, of course, what’s in it’s bomb racks.

At least, none that are unclassified.

No teeth for kill but claws can cause lots of damage. We must continue freedom of navigation exercises. Libya and the Soviets tried this crap in the 80’s and we challenged them and rightly so.

Interesting that Japanese fighters were involved, that will piss of chicoms more than our bombers. Another correct move by Trump. Quietly he must let chicoms know he will use nukes on the norks in a full retaliatory response if the norks attempt a launch on the US or allies and that we are encouraging Japan to go nuclear.
