Secretary of Energy Rick Perry sparked disbelief on Twitter Thursday after he tried to offer an economics lesson while touring a coal plant in West Virginia.

"Here's a little economics lesson: supply and demand. You put the supply out there and the demand will follow," Perry said, responding to a question about a shale gas boom in comments captured by S&P Global Market Intelligence reporter Taylor Kuykendall.

At least he didn’t wave to those people at Memorial Day ceremonies or speak of CorpseMen.

And no Rick Perry should not seek higher office.

When you got true pent up demand, yes. But one cannot push a rope that nobody is trying to pull.

Totally depends on the product and the price.
Expensive electric cars? Nope.
Cheap and fun electronics? Yep.

He must have recently watched “Field of Dreams”.

Of course there are all sorts of inventions that do fulfill a need (or a want), even though it may take awhile for the market to develop.

Energy is a well trodden market. The coal got shut down mostly over overblown AGW fears.

Rick Perry, who refy’d his soul with Angelo Mozilo and Countrywide.

How many more payments does he have on that deal?

Demand drives a supply of products into the market place. Shale is another product into the energy market. Based on its cost to produce can it come in below the current market equilibrium price. If so, then yes demand goes up.

No demand, then no supply.
