Former President Barack Obama delivered a speech overseas Saturday, warning that some nations are becoming too nationalistic.
Speaking to a crowd in Jakarta, Indonesia, Obama argued some countries had adopted “an aggressive kind of nationalism,” adding that there has been an “increased resentment of minority groups.”
Though he largely stayed away from discussing President Donald Trump, Obama spoke out against the isolationism and increased nationalism that he sees as a global problem.
“We start seeing a rise in sectarian politics, we start seeing a rise in an aggressive kind of nationalism, we start seeing both in developed and developing countries an increased resentment about minority groups and the bad treatment of people who don’t look like us or practice the same faith as us,” he said.

Partial defense of Obama - yes, weird -
The Indonesian context is that they tossed an ethnic Chinese (non-Muslim) politician as Governor of Jakarta, and jailed him for blasphemy, because he made controversial statements about the Koran.
So there’s that. It could be veiled criticism of his hosts too.

Just because we want borders doesn’t mean we are isolationists...
Here is the Positions I consider very healthy Nationalist positions.
1. No Unchecked unbridled immigration to/from our country. We don’t want people coming here who want to turn OUR country into a slightly less crappy version of their own home country. The larger the number of people from an out group the less likely the out group will integrate successfully integrate into the in group.
2. Limited Immigration to our country so that only people willing to sacrifice their time and money are coming here because they WANT to join WITH US, not because they WANT OUR FREE SHIT.
3. Tourism is a GOOD THING! Tourism is a good thing, it helps people SAMPLE other cultures and decide if they want to incorporate aspects of other cultures (the positive ones ) into their own WITHOUT FORCING THEM DOWN OUR THROATS.
