“Now ... why do drone operators wear flight suits? They’re not flying ...”
You have to look no further than the letters “U-S-A-F-A” to get the answer to your question and the reason for the new awards. Academy grads were expensive to educate so keeping them around with trinkets and rompers became important to the previous academy grads that now wear stars. Without those trinkets, academy grads would be at a disadvantage at promotion boards. The rompers make it easier to impress the chicks.
For valor above and beyond the touchpad...
No, it isn't.
After reading the comments here, I’d suggest that more of you READ the article.
The “C” and “R” are new devices. This is DOD wide, not just USAF.
The C, R & V provide a better representation of the range of activities that earn medals.
George Peppard see’s what you did there.
“No, it isn’t.”
It’s just as much as flying the thing from the basement of the REDCOM at MacDill AFB. Come to think of it, that would make the loader the last person to touch it before it made it downrange. And after the vehicle pilot could have.
Point is, to give comparable recognition to a chair pilot that you would give to someone in the theater, is pandering. And to compare the handling of a computer safely in a chair in the US to a pilot that could be forced to engage with air to air or air to ground combat at multiple G’s while under fire is way beyond stretching it. I have been led to believe their are hundreds of thousands of kids do that every day. And have no physical problem with it.

Read and understand the article. Then, get back to me.
And, it's spelled "bachelors", not "bachlors".

I did read the article. and I didn’t use the words, either one, in my entry to you. (See below)

Check your profile, Professor.
“Check your profile, Professor.”
What does my profile have to do with the discussion at hand. We were discussing your and my theory on the chair pilots that originally were stationed at MacDill AFB, Tampa Fl, in the basement of the REDCOM, flying drones. And you turned it personal.
But that’s okay. It’s normal when someone is having trouble working on a topic to attack the opponent. If you must know, it was years ago when I was medically retired from the military after twenty plus years and that profile was entered after I lost feeling in my hands and have had two surgeries on them since then. It takes a little time to type that way and you make mistakes. Besides, the last person that was perfect they put on the cross. And I don’t qualify.
I believe you were right to enter this on your profile, counselor.
“These folks will do anything to create controversy.”
You may be right.
