Yikes I went there on vacay in 1992...it was lovely then.
Yeah, many years back you could drive there to enjoy the ocean, stopping off at the ancient silver mining town of Alamos with 1700 architecture on the way. No more.
A horse ride to Ixtapa, diving in the waterfall, scuba at Los Arcos...it was beautiful.
I worked at Alamos for about a year and a half in the late 90s. It’s a beautiful town, all right, and I’d love to take my wife to see it, but I won’t cross the border these days for any reason.
Yep. My dad went on a fishing trip off the coast some years ago. Still have his “trophy catch”.

mazatlan seems reasonably ok for tourists as long as they stay on the main drag (Avenida Cameron Sabredo?) and/or other tourist hot spots, do not drive themselves (take the relatively inexpensive pulmonia taxis, walk, etc.), and do not stay out too late at night. I have been there twice with no problems. There even exists a small ex-pat presence there. yes, there undoubtedly exist safer places. however, no place is 100% safe.
I guess there’s a reason that the “Love Boat” quit sailing there.
