President Donald Trump’s administration is preparing an executive order that will require all U.S. food aid to be transported on American ships, according to four sources with knowledge of the deliberations.

Currently, 50 percent of such aid must be transported on U.S.-flagged vessels. The sources said Trump is considering going as far as doubling that to 100 percent, a move likely to stir opposition from both Republicans and Democrats.

Much hand-wringing over increased costs and the slowing down of delivering food.

Good, we have lost our commercial fleet. They’ve all reflagged under different countries. It’s time we start rebuilding it.

MAGA!!!

Neither this OR the current 50% minimum is a good deal for the US.

A total opposite of free market capitalism. I strongly disapprove.

Hopefully, someone can get through to POTUS before this EO goes into effect.

Maybe they know more than we do about the EO...

[Supporters say Trump’s initiative would not only create new U.S. jobs in the shipping industry but that U.S.-controlled food shipments are important for national security because the U.S. fleet could be transferred to the military in case of a conflict.]

Tell me again why socialist governments that have destroyed their agriculture industries need us to give them free food to cover for their incompetence.

Trump has submitted a budget outline that proposed steep cuts in spending on foreign aid, which accounts for just 1 percent of all U.S. spending. Members of Congress from both parties said they opposed that plan.

And the dims ran a candidate in Georgia who campaigned on eliminating wasteful spending.

If we can't cut this then what can be cut?

this has nothing to do with free trade. This is american goods being donated to regions suffering food shortages. Needless to say, even free means big bucks for somebody.

Follow the money I’m sure it will lead back to a cabal of Progressives abusing the current law.

At the end of WW II we had the worlds largest and best merchant marine today we have one of the smallest due to massive taxation and regulation.

Massive taxation, regulation, union rules? Nah too obvious. It’s those evil haterz at Food for the Poor shipping donations to Haiti on foreign carriers just out of pure mean hate!

I wasn’t talking about free trade. I know what USAID is.

Agreed with your last statement.
