Last Year’s Gun Control Sit-in May Have Democrats in Hot Water With Ethics Committee

The House Ethics Committee has its eye on Reps. John Lewis (D-GA) and Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM) after fielding concerns from the watchdog the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust. The watchdog group filed a complaint in June 2016 against Lujan, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, for his participation in a 25-hour sit-in demanding votes on gun control. He and his colleagues were guilty of using the House resources for political purposes, FACT charged. For instance, during the protest, Lujan’s campaign sent out emails to supporters asking for donations.

“There can be no doubt that the sit-in and voting on a bill are actions taken in the Members’ official capacity,” FACT explained in its complaint. “The emails directly tie the sit-in and holding a vote on a bill to a solicitation for a contribution, and some include official House Television images.”

House Speaker Paul Ryan also noticed the Democrats’ untoward behavior at the time, shaming them for trying to fundraise off of a political stunt.

As if any committee worries these assclowns. They "may" make a john f'n kohn-heinz-kerry type apology(I'm sorry you weren't able to grasp what I said.) and continue doing whatever they feel like doing with no consequence. Waste of committee time since ethics and dementocrats don't work together.

I sure they are just shaking in their shoes.

1. White man’s rules don’t apply to Obama’s kin.

2. All Democrat members of Congress are above the law.

Democrats in hotwater? Yeah- not gonna happen- rules are for republicans, not democrats- democrats can even get away with FELONIES- Destroying evidence during a federal investigation etc- do we seriously think a sit in is going to rise to something more serious than a felony?

I would like to see Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (D-CT) reprimanded by the House Ethics Committee for her role in that sit-in.

She was featured rather prominently in photographs of that event that were widely circulated.

Esty has thought of her district as “safe”, however the district voted for Trump in the Presidential election.

It would be good to have some ‘ammunition’ (pardon the pun) that could be used against her in the 2018 campaign. Although she would likely take an Ethics Committee reprimand as a badge of honor, because ‘ethics’ apparently mean little or nothing to her or to most other Democrats.

I’m sure that if the House voted to expel Rep. Lewis, his voters would just vote him back in in the special election that followed. Same thing happened to Adam Clayton Powell. He was censured and later expelled and his voters voted him back in.
