It’s the weather. Californians spend more time outdoors, goofing off and thus have less time to wreck the state. They do eventually get it done however.
I was born in Chicago and lived there until I was 14, at which time we relocated to SoCal (San Diego). We ended up in Palm Desert.
So, I’ve had the opportunity to see Democrats destroy not one, but two of my home states.
We’re in E Tennessee now. We need to get rid of a few politicians, including the governor, Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander before we start veering off in the wrong direction, too.
Don’t worrying the soda tax in Chitcago will pour in multiple billion$ to the state and all will be roses and butterflies again.
My guess is more would leave, but it’s probably a tough market to sell a house with sky high property and other taxes.
The Democrats are running TV ads blaming Republican Governor Bruce Rauner for not signing on to the Democrats’ budgets including tax increases. Rauner is running ads blaming the Democrat-controled legislature for not giving him a budget he can sign on to. It is like watching a slow-motion car wreck. (I’m safely watching from four miles away in Missouri).

Illinois is a conceal carry state, and people are allowed to transport firearms even without CC. If you are extremely concerned, I would stay out of Cook County—take the bypass around Chicago.
I would suggest that you call the Illinois state police office and ask them how to transport or perhaps a firearm dealer in IL like Bass Pro if calling a gov’t office makes you nervous.
From what I have learned/known, you need to have your empty firearm stored in a locked case in the trunk...Field stripped wiser. Ammo should be in locked case separate from the firearm.
I cannot say it has never happened, but I have not heard of numerous cases of out-of-state cars being stopped and searched with no provocation. The police are not anti CC.
My spouse has car licensed in another state and never stopped and searched. Son and daughter have had out of state plates and never stopped and searched...
I think this is an internet myth—not saying it has not happened, but it certainly not happening with great frequency from what I know.

The feds tax part of S.S. I haven’t filed an Illinois tax form in years. Many years.
OH, and make sure you have proof of insurance, car registration, and your driver license...that is what Men in Blue wish to see if you are pulled over—if those things are in order, doubtful they would search.
I would recommend traveling during day—not rush hour, but during time when there is moderate traffic...If you obey the traffic laws, you will probably be fine.
One party Democrat rule is actually fairly new to California. The last governor was a Republican, albeit mostly in name only. But we’re still coasting on decades of low taxes, business expansion and smart infrastructure spending prior to the last decade or two.
