How the British left condoned the murder of millions
The Spectator ^ | 6/24/2017 | James Bartholomew

In the 1930s and 1940s leading left-wingers went mad for Bolshevism, oblivious to Stalin’s notorious purges

Appalled, Udy changed the subject of his book to a study of the way that prominent members of the Labour party and famous left-wing activists persistently turned a blind eye to all the terror, famines and mass murders perpetrated by the Soviet Union — one of the greatest of crimes against humanity.

The influential legends of the left he indicts include Sidney and Beatrice Webb. They were leading members of the Fabian Society and founders of the London School of Economics. They are normally referred to in reverential tones as representatives of civilised left-wing history. What has been forgotten is that they were passionate advocates of Stalin’s regime. In 1935, they wrote Soviet Communism: A New Civilisation?, a glowing portrait of Stalin which whitewashed the kulak deportations and denied the existence of the mass famine that took place in the Ukraine — commonly known as Holodomor — in which millions died.

The reputation of Ramsay MacDonald, the first Labour prime minister, is also tarnished as an apologist for the Soviet terror. But the legendary left-winger revealed to have the most repulsive, Stalinist views is George Bernard Shaw. Udy shows that Shaw persistently advocated killing those who were not useful to society. Who would decide whether or not a person was ‘useful’? In one essay, in 1933, Shaw wrote: ‘The power to exterminate is too grave to be left in any hands but those of a thoroughly Communist government.’ Between 1930 and 1933, he dismissed numerous reports of executions, forced labour camps and terror in the Soviet Union.

Malcolm Muggeridge, was initially supportive of the Soviet regime. But then he went to Moscow as a correspondent for the Manchester Guardian and learned about the Ukrainian famine. The Guardian censored his reports.

The more things change with the left, the more they stay the same. Last century, reports of Stalin's mass terror were censored. Now, any valid criticism of Islam is censored.

That was going to be my comment, as well, as it is entirely obvious that the deluded totalitarian leftist mindset is repeating itself in this context.....

“The more things change with the left, the more they stay the same. Last century, reports of Stalin’s mass terror were censored. Now, any valid criticism of Islam is censored.”

Very interesting connection.

And 100% right.

As a last gasp they succeeded in ruining their own country and culture by fundamentally changing the immigration laws of Britain when the held power in the 60’s and 70’s. The Left destroys all it touches.

The poster boy for the selling of the Soviets was Walter Duranty of the commie NY TIMES, who won a Pulitzer prize for writing that there was no famine in the Ukraine, while Stalin gave him a rent free luxury apartment in Moscow.

Duranty went far out of his way to attack Malcolm Muggeridge for writing that there WAS a terrible famine in the Ukraine.

The Lenin School of Economics continues even today in London. You should see Brits bristle when I call it that.

Yeah, like the NYT did with Walter Duranty. Big time cover ups by the left of Stalin’s Russia in the 30’s. Millions died, even outside of the Ukraine, regular Russians were taken to work camps for the 5 year plan against their will being treated no better than those at Auschwitz. Stalin also had a Theresienstad camp in the 30’s to show the Red Cross. Its amazing how we are fed “Adolf” 24/7 on the TV and only about 5% on our “Uncle Joe”. No one in Hollywood dares to make any films on the USSR years of the 20’s to 50’s. Oh, I forgot those 40’s films like “Mission to Moscow” and the semi musical “North Star” about the Guerillas/Partisans. LIES! Commie propaganda, compliments of Hollywood.
Give the left the power they lust and we will eventually end up with a dictatorship of the proletariat. The British left and the American Left worked hand in hand, Roosevelt knew! His staff was infiltrated by the left. Our country needed Russia, we sent them tons of supplies, guns, ammo, food, transportation, and clothes that got us out of the depression. When it came to crimes against Humanity, the USSR got off Scott free. It all got swept under the rug by the left.

And it was the NYT pimping for Castro that led to the downfall of Cuba

Before Trump was elected, I actually saw Hillary-bots posting on comment boards that they were looking forward to Hillary’s win so that people like us would be taken to “camps.”

The left has not changed.

We must never let people forget what the left has done.
