Trump And His Generals
Townhall.com ^ | June 22, 2017 | Victor Davis Hanson

Donald Trump earned respect from the Washington establishment for appointing three of the nation's most accomplished generals to direct his national security policy: James Mattis (secretary of defense), H.R. McMaster (national security adviser) and John Kelly (secretary of homeland security).

In the first five months of the Trump administration, the three generals -- along with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the former Exxon Mobil CEO -- have already recalibrated America's defenses.

At home, illegal immigration is down by some 70 percent. Abroad, a new policy of principled realism seeks to re-establish deterrence through credible threats of retaliation. The generals are repairing old friendships with allies and neutrals while warning traditional enemies not to press their luck.

Trump has turned over most of the details of military operations to his generals. According to his critics, Trump is improperly outsourcing to his generals both strategic decision-making and its tactical implementation.

But is Trump really doing that?

In his campaign, Trump vowed to avoid new ground wars while not losing those he inherited. He pledged to wipe out ISIS and radical Islamic terrorism without invading Middle Eastern countries to turn them into democracies.

Those are wide but nonetheless unmistakable parameters.

“........illegal immigration is down by some 70 percent.”....

better check the populations of Mexico and the central American states. My guess most of the “illegals” area already hiding out here.

Why is there a typo referring to Trump as Tramp near the end, even the editors are on board with the Democrats?

Yep, we’ve still got a full house—*and* Obama’s DACA policy being perpetuated.

I just tried to post the entire article to you because I reread it several times and couldn't find it, but did when I read it again. If I had been able to post the entire op-ed I would have corrected the word. I really don't see why articles by Victor Davis Hanson from Townhall.com have to be excerpted. I can understand when they come directly from his site: VictorHanson.com, but they are not

As a matter of fact, I just checked his site and found that the oped isn't even on his site.

Finally an essay about President Trump from Hanson with nary a disparaging remark. I think “Tramp” was a simple spell-check bypassing type.

Well that has actually nothing to do with spell checking since both are words. Had it been a typo it would have probably come out as "Trimp" since the letter "i" is right next to the letter "u"

BTW I did a search in National Review where his ob-ed is also posted and the word "Tramp" does not appear

At home, illegal immigration is down by some 70 percent.

Phony and dangerous left-wing meme keeps repeating itself in news articles everywhere. I saw the source of this phony stat from a federal agency online and I call it BS put out by Obama loyalists entrenched within the agency. These people will do and say ANYTHING to keep the illegals coming, and those that are here, here.

Tell a lie often enough and it becomes the truth (Cloward-Piven strategy). So we no longer need a wall and we no longer need to worry about deporting the 50 million who are already here. Or the DACA "children". Or the anchor baby fake citizens.

See? Nothing to worry about anymore, the illegal alien invasion of America just vanished into thin air on inauguration day, they all became so scared of Trump they just ran back to the countries they came from.

And even if it were true, what are we supposed to be, happy with 30% of an overwhelming horde of illegals still jumping the border on a daily basis?

The essence of leadership: Hire good, trustworthy people, tell them what you want done, and then GET OUT OF THEIR WAY!

I was a supporter of President Trump right FRom the get-go because I recognized that he hires good people and leaves them alone to “do their thing.”

Implicit in his charge to them is “If you screw it up, you are gone.”

In return for his confidence in the people he hires, they KNOW he has their six!

Leadership at it finest!
