I was the op-ed editor at The Wall Street Journal at the peak of the Whitewater scandal. We ran a series of investigative pieces “raising serious questions” (as we say in the scandal business) about the nefarious things the Clintons were thought to have done back in Arkansas...
In retrospect Whitewater seems overblown. And yet it has to be confessed that, at least so far, the Whitewater scandal was far more substantive than the Russia-collusion scandal now gripping Washington.
There may be a giant revelation still to come. But as the Trump-Russia story has evolved, it is striking how little evidence there is that any underlying crime occurred — that there was any actual collusion between the Donald Trump campaign and the Russians. Everything seems to be leaking out of this administration, but so far the leaks about actual collusion are meager...
Things are so bad that I’m going to have to give Trump the last word. On June 15 he tweeted, “They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story.” Unless there is some new revelation, that may turn out to be pretty accurate commentary.

David Brooks for years has begged for a Republican like Trump, why would he dislike him?

He’s implying there is something, but not much. In reality, it is still appearing to be completely fabricated. Not a shred of evidence has come forward even suggesting some collusion may, possible, in some wild stretch of the imagination, have taken place.

Or civil war. People might be starting to notice that the efforts to separate Trump from his supporters are not working, and that protestors are starting to respond to violence.
As Alan Dershowitz said on Tucker’s show last night, even a liberal democrat who happily voted for Hillary but who is intellectually honest can see that the whole Russia thing is a made-up fraud for political gain and should be stopped, now.
I don’t care what Brooms says. Further more I believe the NYT is currently working with the Russians to undermine the Trump presidency.

Really? LOL. David Brooks has been a "neo-con" globalist/establishment Republican for as long as I can remember. I'm sure Donald Trump was ranked at the very bottom of the list of Republican candidates in 2016, as far as he was concerned.
Maybe he prefers someone more genteel - like Obama.
Therein lies the rub. If the bogus hearings, investigations, and all the rest were swept aside, it would leave these blowhards nothing else to do but.....tend to the people’s business. And that’s the last thing they care about.
I’m sure that the President, being a billionaire, must have some mighty nice creases in his trou.
