There's more to Pat's "quirks" than simple "bigotry."
Buchanan (and many other conservatives, unfortunately) subscribes to a late nineteenth century philosophy which I call "metaphysical nationalism." It subordinates religion to ethnicity--as a matter of fact, makes religion a mere aspect of ethnicity--and exalts nation over G-d A-mighty.
The Catholics of the Middle Ages were not metaphysical nationalists but universalists. They never heard the expression "blood and soil." But people like Buchanan make chrstianity not the "one true religion" but merely the expression of White Western European Man. Please understand that I am no supporter of the Mexican "reconquista," but the fact that Buchanan is closer to "fellow Aryans" who are Protestants than to Mexicans who are Catholic is very telling.
It's no wonder that metaphysical nationalists hate the Jews. They want to pretend that every ethnic group has its own "gxd," its own "holy land," and its own "one true religion" that is valid for it. The fact that the Jews are truly and objectively the Chosen People with the true Holy Land gives the lie to their bizarre nationalistic relativism. If there weren't a liberal Jew in the world--if every Jew were a black-hatted fundie who believed everyone spoke Hebrew until the Tower of Babel--such people would still hate them because of Sinai.
Nationalism since the late nineteenth century is polluted with this idolatrous philosophy. Believe it or not, nationalism actually started out on the Left as a reaction to medieval Catholic universalism. How times have changed.
I'm too much of a fundie to care about "intolerance." My problem is with idolatry. And metaphysical nationalism is idolatry.

It is very clear that you have a problem with nationalism. I agree nationalism can be hijacked by dictatorial fascists but it can also be a good thing too. US citizens should be proud of our history and heritage. It was nationalism that led the USA to fight the Nazis and turn off the ovens burning Jews into dust. So it work both ways. Nationalism is the force that keeps the globalist at bay. I could be wrong but you are clearly a globalist and your dire hatred of Nationalism rings hollow to the Patriot. Nice try, not.
Trump is only a totem and a stand-in for their true hatred. The Left detests working and middle class white Americans above all else, and they especially resent the fact that a candidate who purports to speak for the interest of this hated demographic got elected.
Trump has also become a symbol for the collapse of the Globalist Utopian (or rather dystopian) dream of a world without borders. His views on trade and foreign policy challenge the elite consensus where sovereign nation states and institutions are "supposed" to be replaced by transnational agencies, bureaucracies, and world finance.
As I have Posted here multiple times, there isn’t a Liberal alive who wouldn’t jump at the chance to help load us Irredeemable Deplorables into Railway Cattle Cars on their way to the DNC Reeducation Camps.
