American democracy has been corrupted, and if not cured, the disease will be fatal. There is no other conclusion to be drawn when the public is deceived is on the scale that was revealed (but ignored) by James Comey. The stunning truth is that the American political and media establishment allowed a phony story that they knew was phony -- to dominate our political discourse for months. When James Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee last week, he revealed that he had informed many important Congressional leaders that there was no investigation of President Trump and the Russians underway, even as MSNBC, CNN, The Newstories alluding to an imaginary investigation.
None of these informed leaders spoke out! They allowed a make-believe tale intended to harm the legitimacy and therefore political power of President Trump to dominate mindshare in the nations collective political conversation.

Comey now claims he deleted his original memos, and the professor he gave a copy to is in hiding. Totally normal.

“media establishment allowed a phony story”
They did not just allow it - they actively bent themselves into pretzels and applied all their creativity artfully twist every sentence to promote it.
Politicians may have been passive, but the media were active deceivers.
Russia WAS trying to influence the election. And it did so by circulating that fake dossier on Trump that The FIB and elitists in Washington and New York gobbled up like a honey baked ham.
The media sat on that fake ‘dossier’ story for months because they knew it was fake and would be quickly discovered to be fake.
They only deployed it when all their lies and obfuscation wasn’t working ... the public wasn’t buying it. They were so desperate by that point that they didn’t care how it would make them look.
The media has blown itself up in a gigantic mushroom cloud of FAKEness.
In my opinion there was a secondary objective to all this.
To drive a wedge between Trump and Russia !
We FINALLY had a leader who was willing to make REAL peace with Russia... and the military industrial complex and others couldn’t allow that!
By pushing this fake story, they pushed Trump to continue to treat Russia with mistrust out of fear that reaching out to them in friendship might be seen as proof of Russian help in his election.
The man- (or woman)-in-the-street interviews I’ve seen confirm that, in the minds of low-info voters, there exists a general impression that the Trump administration is corrupt, a direct result of the drumbeat of the phioney Russian collusion story.
“kept the Russia collusion story alive “
The problem with the headline is it implies that is in the past now. The BS story is very much alive. The GOP is still not defending Trump now even though the shameless bastards have been exposed for knowing Trump was not being investigated months ago and said nothing.
I agree with you on that.
At some point, in order to drain the swamp, Trump will need to play hardball with the GOP congress. When are the congressional primaries?
Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty, or your recklessness...You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?
It's as if they crawled inside a bomb, lit the fuse and called it their safe space.
“allowed”? As in past tense? They’re still doing it. The lead story last night on NBC Nightly News was about supposed Russian collusion. They won’t stop.
It has been said a number of times - including there being no evidence of any collusion, etc. - it just wasn’t reported to any degree.
I just KNEW the Russians were behind the Russian Army!
They’ve got to keep the lie going. They have too much political capital invested in it. Fearful of losing control, they resort to policies that, when exposed, further undermine that control.
“except to call Burr tomorrow”
Let us know about the conversation.
He’s my senator also. His demeanor has always made him a suspicious man to me.
