Democrats' Hoodwinking of Blacks

Ask any black person which political party has been black people's political ally. With near unanimity, blacks would answer the Democratic Party. Ask which political party has been hostile to blacks, they'd say the Republican Party with similar unanimity. For better answers, check out Prager University's five-minute clip "The Inconvenient Truth About the Democratic Party," by Carol Swain, professor of political science at Vanderbilt University.

Since its founding in the late 1820s, the Democratic Party has defended slavery, started the Civil War and opposed Reconstruction. The Democratic Party imposed segregation. Its members engaged in the lynchings of blacks and opposed the civil rights acts of the 1950s and '60s. During Reconstruction, hundreds of black men were elected to Southern state legislatures as Republicans, and 22 black Republicans served in the U.S. Congress by 1900. The Democratic Party did not elect a black man to Congress until 1935.

President Woodrow Wilson was a Progressive Democrat and an avowed racist who shared many views with the Ku Klux Klan. He resegregated the federal civil service. He screened the racist film "The Birth of a Nation," originally titled "The Clansman," at the White House; it was the very first movie ever played at the White House.

What was the party of Orval Faubus, the Arkansas governor who blocked the desegregation of Little Rock schools and defied the U.S. Supreme Court's unanimous 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision? What was the party of Theophilus Eugene Connor, known as Bull Connor, who, as city commissioner, set vicious dogs, fire hoses and billy clubs on black civil rights demonstrators in Birmingham, Alabama? Connor said: "You can never whip these birds if you don't keep you and them separate. I found that out in Birmingham. You've got to keep your white and black separate." If you answered that Faubus and Connor were Democrats, go to the head of the class. By the way, it was Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower who sent troops to ensure that black students could attend Little Rock's Central High School.

What was the political party of Alabama Gov. George Wallace, who, during the 1960s civil rights movement, declared that he stood for "segregation now, segregation tomorrow and segregation forever" and blocked black students from entering the University of Alabama?

A few years later, the only serious congressional opposition to the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 came from Democrats. Eighty percent of Republicans in the House of Representatives supported the bill. Less than 70 percent of Democrats did. Democratic senators, led by ex-Klansman Robert Byrd's 14-hour filibuster, kept the bill tied up for 75 days, until Republicans mustered enough votes to break the filibuster.

Labor unions have always been allied with the Democratic Party and have a history of racism. Most of today's black leaders give unquestioned support to labor unions and their policies that harm black workers, but yesteryear's black leaders saw things differently. Frederick Douglass, in his 1874 essay "The Folly, Tyranny, and Wickedness of Labor Unions," argued that unions were not friends of blacks. W.E.B. Du Bois called unions "the greatest enemy of the black working man." Booker T. Washington also opposed unions because of their adverse impact on blacks.

Today, Democrats use diplomacy to hoodwink blacks. They tell blacks to be against those -- such as Education Secretary Betsy DeVos -- who are for school vouchers that enable black parents to get their children out of rotten schools run by Democrats at the National Education Association. Democrats are using black congressmen to go after Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who is a high-profile conservative, champion of law and order, and supporter of President Donald Trump. They view Clarke as a threat to Democratic Party interests. Indeed, if Democrats lost just 25 percent of the black vote, they would be in deep political trouble.

By the way, none of what I've said should be taken as an argument that blacks should rush to become Republicans. I'd like to see the black community acting the way most Japanese and Chinese communities do -- not getting into a tizzy over which political party is in power.

The post-1968 Democratic Party is a bit harder to sell. Nevertheless, the Democratic Party remains the enemy of blacks (and the poor, and everybody else).

In “Black Lies, White Lies” black commentator Tony Brown coined the term, “Entitlement Socialism” many years ago, whereby the public treasury is politically exploited and wealth is redistributed in exchange for votes.

Since the implementation of LBJ’s “Great Society” laws in 1964, we have squandered an estimated $22.2 Trillion (in inflation adjusted USD’s) federal and state entitlement programs. What has improved in the past 55-years? Nothing.

Ping

Even on Free Republic, many posters get the two parties confused, wishing us to believe it was Republicans supporting slavery and Democrats wanting it abolished.

Most blacks vote democratic who support and push Planned Parenthood which was founded to get rid of the black population and the disabled.

All of this is true but when debating with a black person they will tell you all whites in the south who where democrats changed to the Republican Party thus making them the responsible ones for everything in that article.

Thanks for the ping.

Here is my analysis on this issue.

North Eastern Republicans were long frustrated by the fact that Democrats had effectively neutralized the black vote in the South and other areas through tactics like "Grandfather clauses" and "Poll Taxes", etc.

The requirement to pay taxes in order to exercise the voting franchise has been with the nation since before it's founding and was considered a bedrock principle of American government.

The North Eastern (Liberal) Republicans saw this as causing them a loss of political power because the requirement to pay taxes was costing them approximately 10 million black votes that they otherwise would have, and so they created the 24th amendment which was intended to allow non tax payers to vote.

Now the amendment was sold as banning "poll taxes" because many people saw them as unfair and wrong, but it did in fact eliminate the requirement to pay any taxes.

The Liberal North Eastern Republicans believed this would insure their continuing power in the future because it would give them an insurmountable advantage in elections.

Into the picture comes Lyndon Johnson who though an @$$hole, was a very canny politician. He immediately realized the shift in power which would occur as a result of this initiative and so he launched his "Great Society" programs to bribe this newly created voting block into coming over to his side.

Over the course of about 10 years, Blacks migrated from the Republican camp into the Democrat camp, and have mostly remained there ever since. They have been effectively bribed with money from Washington D.C. to vote for Democrats.

Lyndon Johnson's strategy worked perfectly, though it has cost the nation about 21 trillion dollars in expenditures. It has however bolstered the Democrats power base for the last 50 years.

Most of the Liberal Republicans have since moved over to the Democrat Party, and now the big Cities of the North East are strictly Democrats. Indeed, most big cities everywhere are bastions of the Democrat party.

There is some truth in that, but not in the way they think. The old Racist Southern Democrats have mostly died out, and it is merely their children who have switched to the Republican party.

And you can thank Ronald Reagan for that.

"...now the big Cities of the North East are strictly Democrats. Indeed, most big cities everywhere are bastions of the Democrat party. "

Good analysis, mostly.
But big cities have always been Democrats, going back well before the Civil War.
Antebellum Washington political power centered in the alliance of Southern Democrat slaveholders, whose votes were greatly enhanced by the Constitution's 3/5 rule, and Northern Big City Democrat financial/global merchant types whose votes were also greatly enhanced, by immigrants.

Today's Democrats are the same with the notable replacement of old slaveholders with the descendants of their former slaves.

From what I have read the 3/5ths rule was a compromise with the North and for the North's benefit. The Southerners wanted to count them as an entire person for the purpose of census and thereby determine representation in Congress. The North realized this would give the South more political clout and therefore they objected to counting slaves as a full person for census purposes.

Therefore the South's voting power was not enhanced by the 3/5ths compromise, it was degraded by that compromise.

The South would have been more politically powerful had slaves been counted as a full person.

God help the democrats if the blacks ever wake up and discover how badly they’ve been punked! On second thought ...don’t help them.

Kevin Jackson (black conservative radio guy) did his show yesterday about the CON job that the Dems keep pulling on blacks, as well as others. That’s how we should start referring to Dems policies...a CON JOB!

Would you have preferred counting slaves as full persons for the purpose representation, even though they had no rights and could not even vote their own conscious?

Women could not vote but they were counted as full persons for the purpose of representation.

I am not interested in passing a moral judgement on the situation, I am merely recounting the reality of how it was.

My preferences will not affect the history. We must understand the History as it was, not how we would like it to have been.

Dr. Williams is as incisive and cogent as ever.

Dems seem quite okay with keeping blacks poor, ignorant, and dependent on Dems for subsistence living conditions and a free obamaphone.

As a somewhat related aside, I recall (in the days before students used backpacks) that black students rarely carried textbooks home, and white students always had a few textbooks and a binder at their hip.

I've heard that the reason for this was that if a black student carried books home, he or she would be ridiculed by other black students as being too white (or similar trashtalk).

Where were/are the Dem leaders on this?
